Ok, so my car cant idle. See youtube video I took to show problem.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg2P_8U3CyA

Please note that I only blipped the throttle once, the up and down motion is not my input...

I thought it was because my cheap decat was blowing due to a perished gasket, so i bought a new mani and decat from WEPR and new OEM gaskets, which I recently fitted. I also fitted a RRFPR and raised pressure to 2.8 bar, ready to go up to 3bar to match 1bar boost pressure when HKS actuator goes on (this week).

SCREAMER PIPE

MANI

All well fitted and no blowing whatsoever. Car idled fine on cold start but then once warm problem persisted. Turned up idle screw but although idle has raised on cold start, it hasnt helped much once warm.

I have uprated Magnecor HT leads I fitted about 18 months ago or so, as well as spark plugs, I have FCD wired in. Today I removed, cleaned and re-fitted my ICV but I then took the above video so as you can see it has not cured the problem.

ICV before

ICV After

my list of possible problems:

Fuel pump - cant believe it would be this as fuel pressure is solid.
PCV - Have been told that this could need changing but dont think would cause the above symptoms.
Dizzy - never changed this.
Rotor Arm - Never changed this
ECU - perhaps my ECU is confused despite putting in an FCD?

Anyone got any suggestions would be great as I know a lot of forum members suffer a very similar problem..

All suggestions more than welcome dont keep your thoughts to yourself!

N

edit - just realised dizzy and rotor arm wouldnt be that relevant on a starlet would it!!!

Check the wiring on your ECU,did you wire the FCD via the ECU?

Did you try a diagnostics test?

Map sensor? Is your FCD wired straight into the plug in the engine bay? Runs exactly the same as mine when I had a JAM FCC wired straight off the MAP sensor plug (it was wired in correctly. Removing it fixed it)

Well I wired in the FCD 3-6 months ago and the problem only started occuring recently, so unless the mods have effected the ECU/FCD somehow then I would say I dont think the FCD is the problem.

I don think it is the ICV, as you can see it is not broken, it was filthy but not anymore!

FCD is wired into the ECU behind the dash central column on the interior, not in the engine bay.

I could try taking out the FCD, but surely it will then just fuel cut? or will the RRFPR prevent it from doing so?

Perhaps a vacuum hose or something could cause the problem?

I havent taken the car for a diagnostics test...

Check the wires on the ecu.
Remove the FCD for the sake of finding if its the problem, you wont have to wrry about fuel cut if your car wont run.

No,the FPR wont stop fuel cut.

hi mate ive had a prob like this/this problem
its your engine coolent temp sensor.
as it goes faulty it richens the ecu and makes the idle hunt and stall
i changed all of the above and the head gasket before i changed the engine
coolent temp sensor
was about £60
hope this helps

Thanks mate this is great stuff. Where abouts is the coolant temp sensor located?

Corofin I will also look into the map sensor and see if that makes a difference...
