Why should I get a Glanza?

Hey guys

Been looking at these for ages now

Basically, I want something quick + economical when I drive 'normally'

Currently, I have a Corsa 1.7 CDTI

Got a nice punch once I press the throttle, but I'm looking for something a bit quicker, and to be honest, I miss driving a petrol!

My brother has a Cooper S (supercharged) ... ideally, I'd like something sort of "on par" speed wise, within speed limits

Will the Glanza fit the bill, as standard, or with little spent?

Also, are there any common issues with these cars (and what can be done to rectify them)?

Thanks for all your help :)

glanza ftw buddy... just look out for things like.. engine knocking, bad shocks, whinning from gearbox, crunching through gears, cv joints, engine mounts, check oil for water in it, look for smoke on cold idle and on warm idle...

Engine knocking could mean ... engine mounts? (easy to do?)
Are they known to have shoddy gearboxes?
Are the CV joints weak, or just from abuse?
Water in oil as in, mayonnaise looking oil?

I will most probably be getting a fresh import if anything, rather than a british owned Glanza. Also, I am doing some research in advanced as I won't be changing car for another month or so

Just for the GT owners, I won't be swayed to a GT :)

lol... enging knocking would meen big end bearings gone.. in other words "big trouble"... you will know yourself with the gearbox.. if its whinning while driving or crunching into gear leave it... cv joints in most cases would of never been changed so listen out for knocking/clicking when at full lock either way and also check cv joint boots for slits... as for oil, check filler cap for mayo and also check dip stick level... make sure the car your looking at wasnt warmed up hiding things from cold start.. just a general check really and ull be flying.... :)

Thank you both for your responses :)

You mention the Big End Bearings, is this a common problem? Is it expensive to be fixed? What causes it?

I am sorry for all these questions, but after making a mistake buying my current car, and my previous car (not getting what I wanted), I really want to get it right this time

CV joints are usually relatively easy to sort anyways aren't they. Just a case of a new drive shaft?

I will certainly be test driving before I part with the cash this time.

I've heard about people pre warming cars up, that's why when I've gone to visit people in the past to look at a car, I don't give them a specific time.

not really no but with some lads upping boost and not getting supporting mods this can happen...cv joints can be just replaced and boots also..no need 2 replace full unit.. your ears are your best friend when it comes to lookin at cars... :)

These things sound quite problematic lol

Although surely if it's just been serviced by a Dealer, it should have all problems fixed? I've noticed some dealers offer 1 year parts warranty, I assume it will cover all that has been mentioned, as long as I change oil regularly?

ah ya... just try and find an unabused example... very fun car even as stock... these cars are very reliable but in the hands of idiots can cause problems for next owner

I'll be getting the oil + filter done every 3k miles as suggested on here and will always check all of the coolant / fluid levels.

I know there is some speculation as to the actual stock 0-60 times on these, but as said in my original post, would a stock Glanza V be fairly equal to a Cooper S (Supercharged) ?

Also, is it easy to get replacement parts for these cars easily / reasonably priced?

you can get most parts from traders on here or members that are breaking cars.. in fairness a cooper s is a 2lt supercharged machine but a glanza would put up a good fight 2 it... scrappy little machines

re

cooper s supersharged are 225 bhp standard a glanza is bout 130 stnd so cooper is faster but glanza would hold it till 80 mph

aye tbh the cooper s... is slower thn most ppl think had a few on strip and never lost to one n mines pretty much standard, they do weigh a bit tho where as glanza's are light compared.

Thanks for that

The Cooper S's are 1.6L engines :)

Yeah I think the power to weight ratio of the Glanza means it would give it a good push

cooper s supersharged are 225 bhp standard a glanza is bout 130 stnd so cooper is faster but glanza would hold it till 80 mph

Cooper S supercharged cars are only 170bhp as standard

Sounds like the sort of information I want :)

What mods have you got then?

If you want to import an glanza have a look at this one. Very Clean Glanza!

Thank you for that link!

I came across this 2 days ago actually, lovely car, as you said! However, as I said in my first post, It won't be until 30th June at the earliest for my change of car, as that's when my insurance drops down further (2 years driving)

However, if that car is still there, which it may well be, I think I might have found my car :shoot:

pretty sure cooper s's and glanza 's are roughly the same speed.

Make sure you don't buy anything with a fcd fiitng and upped boost with no fueling mods- in other words don't buy from an idiot who has just wanted speed without looking after his car.:homer:

my glanza has a few mods, presume about 150 bhp, keeps up with a works cooper

cooper s arent 225bhp standard man there 184, the works are 220 i think

I can put this into a real life situation as my mate Joe had a Cooper S Supercharged and I have a Glanza.

My Glanza has Coilovers, lightweight wheels, stripped interior, braces etc a decat, TRD exhaust system, Apexi filter, HKS Actuator & EBC (running just above stock boost tho at 0.78bar) EBC Brakes, Pads and Hel lines with 5.1 fluid.

We had a little blast down some country roads from his house to mine. he led on the way there and I was all over his rear bumper, on the way back I led and he couldn't get past me. He said it was pulling out of corners that he couldn't keep up with me.

So all in all - A few basic mods to the Glanza and you'll be worrying your Brother ;)
