'Watch the calendar. The Beta expires on August 1, 2009. To continue using your PC, please be prepared to reinstall a prior version of Windows or a subsequent release of Windows 7 before the expiration date.' Straight off Microsoft's website. Nice one Sheldon, I might go get the full 64bit version and have a proper dabble now. Anyone know if it supports Direct X 10? I'm going to assume it does, but this is Microsoft after all.

You are using the 64bit version? Why? You are running 32bit software most of the time. So no advantages there. The 64 bit version can work with 3+ Gb of memory but if you are running the 32bit one, only the business edition and ultimate edition will use 4 Gb.

I used it at my work and at home. I agree for most people it will do fine for surfing, downloading and e-mail. But if you want to do something extra, most of the time its a no go, because of performance troubles. And at work, that's also a pain in the ass. Management tools for our servers didn't work, they work now but still kinda crappy. I'm still running Windows XP because of my "slow" pc, and the lack of performance in Vista.

@Sheldon, divx films....... it think they rip out the good parts of your pr0n collection :p

As I said I wouldnt use it for a business, i have tried and its shit a nightmare to configure, one laptop with vista wouldnt even connect to a 2003 SBS, it connected fine to the domain but wouldnt connect to network drives etc.. pure nightmare.

I do alot of image and video editing at home so 4gb (i would use 8gb if i didnt have channel issues) is vital for me, hence why I use a 64bit OS.

But in my experience using apps like vegas, master collection etc they all perform much better on vista than XP for me.
For a good pc there shouldnt be any loss in performance vs XP (this is home users) Infact I can name quite a few games and apps released in the last year that perform better and are more stable under vista and or 64bit environments.

Im confused about these performance troubles you state for the home user, as since the service pack for vista I have had no issues at all! well I lie, it didnt like 8800gtx sli, but I blame nvidia drives not vista for that!

yeah i also have the 7000 but there are some updated for that also. not for media player and IE. well i sue Google chrome but was testing IE and found loads of bugs for example when the page loads it will come white (blank) and media player will not respond when you move the bar to a different time. or fails to start when trying to open a media file.

Just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop and so far, so good! I like it, much quicker than Vista when carrying out basic tasks i.e. opening folders, IE, MSN etc. I like! :D
