Xbox freezing

not sure if meant to put this here or in the ICT section so i apologise if wrong.

Basically got red rings about 8 months ago, sent off under 3 year warranty (just) and got all sorted.

when im playing forza 3 it just freezes sometimes. for no reason?
doesnt do it on other games, play cod for hours on end and doesnt freeze once, so i thought it was the disk so replaced it and nope still happens.

also recently it has started to not rear DVD. it just doesnt recognise that it is in the tray. used to not recognise it but i would clean disks and would be fine after a few tries.
never have this issues with games. instantly loads them.


personally i think its just old and knackered and had its fair share of gaming. anyone got any advice?

p.s its an xbox elite about 4 years old now, bless it

I'd say that it may be starting to play up again. My xbox done this before for ages, random read problems etc. Then eventually gave in with the three rings.

If you don't do this already, make sure none of the vents are blocked, and try to keep the room ventilated to keep the temp down.

Might be an idea to save a few pounds for a new xbox if it eventually decides to give up.

You could also "burn" the Forza game to the HDD and see if that works better than running from the disc.

Cheers stu, hadnt even thought to burn the disk to the hard drive. will do tonight if i remember.

yeah i think its just on a downward spiral now and time to dish out for one of the newest ones that have just come out.

Id have to say the same forza 3 used to freeze on me the hole time until I saved it onto the hdd! Hope it helps buddy

its horrible as i use to do endurance races but now cant at the fear of it freezing on me! was not happy when it did.... anything near got destroyed.

gonna give that a go tonight. isnt it weird everyone agrees that its forza 3 haha

Open it up, clean all the dust out with a hoover, take the disc drive out, open it up and clean the lens with a cotton bud and makesure the wheel is free of dirt.

It's your disc drive buddy iv had exactly the same problem, it won't get no better and its a pain in the ads to code and new disc drive, its really easy to fit though, I ended up just getting a brand new elite from morrisons for 99 quid when morrisons had them on offer the other week.

Xbox's are cheap these days for brand new, even the latest version. I know if mine goes crazy again, the new one is the best job. And its quiet

its forza dude i had the same problem. every game will work fine but as soon as i play forza its touch and go. it happens alot less if you install it to the hdd.

if you get the rod then also its prob going to happen again and again as once it happens the first time they cant prop fix it

Yeah forza is the only game it does it on, i installed it to hdd last night but didnt play it for long so dont know if its worked.

but also wont even recognise that dvd's are in it :S
