Ricky there is a grade 4 on there at the mo, just over 50,000 miles on the clock. Yes it's stock but it's in top condition, can you not put some of your old parts on there.

Here is a classic example of the crap people import:

Looks great in the picture right? It's an R grade, crash repaired and has over 100,000 miles on the clock. It's also a 1998 so they re-register them here as 1997 to avoid the SVA. I shouldn't have posted this as no doubt if I hadn't someone would have imported and sold it as a "MINT" car with 45,000 miles on the clocked speedo :p

Toby how do traders get away with this?? How do you get all the info on them?? Sorry if I am being dim!

lol toby i'll have a quick look now. and yes i have noticed that some of the cars that are crap and have seen at auction, are now over here being sold as mint with less miles on then i had seen previously.

@toby there is a grey mk1 on there, auction grade 3.5 im actually really interested in that, can u pm me with details and how much money u need and i shall get some sorted for u

EDIT: actually, can u have a look and tell me if its worth it, i would like to put my white wheels on there, do u think it would look ok?

@ elaine, toby knows this as he looks at the cars that go through auction. he then sees them for sale over here, (either repaired, or with less miles)

We can get the auction sheets sent to us although we can see a rough idea on the car in the basic listing. Like Mikey stated people get away with it as most people don't know what there buying, not that there stupid just its easy to make car look nicer and hide the true condition.

They look great in 5-6 pictures, all shiny and polished, they cover the engine in WD40 (which makes plastic shiny) so it all looks new, they clock the cars back a good 50,000 miles, they paint the blemishes, they just do anything they can to hide the fact it's really a piece of shit, literally makes my blood boil as we look expensive when in fact that's what there really worth. If you see a freshly imported Glanza 1997+ from a company for under £4000.00 then something is not right, unless they are importing them to make a loss (because that makes sense). If they import 40-50 cars then it may just be possible but try finding 40-50 nice Starlets at a time!!

What I must point out is that not all cars will be dodgy, there might be a few exceptions under 4k for example if they were really lucky and no one else bidded but 99% of the time they have reserves and if there too low they will not sell them at auctions and re-list them the next week. Or they might not be able to sell it for whatever reason so they lower the price but there are just too many examples that do not fit the bill, a real real shame for the market.

Tis bad how dealers/importers can get away with that :(

It happens with every marque I'm afraid. As the car gets more and more popular, the traders are under more and more pressure to meet demands and start to import more and more shoddy examples as the market for decent models dries up over in Japan.

Just had a thought SX, what about looking for an EP85 and swapping the engine over from your bent '82, or has the deal been sealed with Toby already?

Lifer
deals been sealed monkfish :(

it would be a good idea but i really dont want any hassle, i just want to buy a car and drive it. swap my bits over and be done with it.

Fair enough then. Shame really, the Starlet's only real disadvantage is it's WWD. A powerfull AWD Starlet really is a force to be reckoned with and would upset many an Impreza fanboy. :p

*Goes to look for an EP85*

i can completly sympathise (sp) with you here.
Although it was back in june i was looking, i went to look at more than 15 glanzas all over the country.

i then found one about 20 mins off my doorstep and it was a minter.

not meaning to genralise but i found that going north the cars get worse and worse
