3 Headgaskets in a month - what am I doing wrong???

Oh how I laughed, that is fucking brilliant...

I know what the problem is. Your head bolts are too long now, and under extreme conditions, your head is lifting. This is the result of getting the head skimmed twice.

Spot on! Rep going to be added!

Nice joke! Best thing i have heard for a long time!

So people who use skimed heads and skimed block with 0.6mm gasket should have a huge gap in between cause head bolts are too long yea?

It was you who built the engine of J25GTI member?

I did a major engine piston overhaul, did a full head service for a starlet GT i only just purchased and my car is faultless to this day.

It seems like their is indeed a major structural fault of your engine. It could be indeed a block distort or your just thrashing the engine of its tits with seriously bad tune or ignition timing.

Buy or borrow a new torque wrench, I would say yours is not operating accurately and the head is not tightened down properly.

Head gaskets are like clutches, whenever they give problems, replace all the necessary parts with good quality parts or pay the price for doing it cheap in labour and repeating the job. ARP head bolts can be reused so are worth the money imo, buying a new set of head bolts each time mounts up.

You were replacing the head bolts each time, yes?

Im still going by my word of long head bolts and its inability to clamp head properly due to excess head machining.

And to compensate by using thicker head gasket like what 350ep said, i would not trust my engine with 350ep anyday ever. Last person i would ever leave my engine with.

I think he knows a damn site more about these engines than you. Do they actually make shorter head bolts incase u skim the head? Lol

A few thousands of a millimeter aint gonna affect the head bolts man.

Are u sure u didn't build my engine?

Getting the head skimmed will not affect the head bolts. So stop saying that.
The only way it would be headbolts is that the boyo is using the same standard ones each time, causing the bolts to stretch past there limit.Therefor not clamping the head properly.

Mate you are a really funny boy! You said 2 times skimming will cause that yea? Do you know how much material is removed each time it is skimmed?Probably you dont have a clue..and think it is 1cm each time. And again most of people with forgies ...(do you have a clue what forgies are ?) skim the head, skim the block, and put a very thin gasket in there of 0.6mm. Do you have a clue how much this is thiner than oem hg? (incase you cant count..it is less 0.6mm from only the gasket).Plus the removed material from both side skimming. And the bolts are fine and clamp fine.....
Also you are so stupid that is umbelivable...if you put only the bolt in the block you will see that the tread is at least 1cm more than the bolt..
Anyway..about your engine the only think i can do with it is to scrap it..or melt it at 10.000 celcious!
When i have some time i will reply to all your threads one by one!!!! Especially the one with the broken piston...where you use those rings from the broken ringlands to a new piston...LOL God come back to earth!!!!! I was laughing for a week. Stay away from your car aswell for your own good and for safety reasons.
Have some negative rep for your attitude generally to people!

mayo can be normal from short journeys. but you did know the block can be warped. i had to get my blocked skimmed cause it had warpped aswell as the head.

is the engine using water or spitting it back out?

I cleaned out the mayo and took it for a long journey. Since then, the mayo hasn't come back. Im 99% sure the block isn't warped though, because I put a straightedge on it and couldnt get feeler blades under it.

Think the torque wrench is fine - it's not that old and its always set to its lowest setting when not being used.

I replaced the head bolts the 1st time but not the second, and I checked that they are reusable.

I still need to try another thermostat though... water temp gauge still a bit low and heaters don't work at all so its freezin in my car :S

My car is pulling strong till this day. The compression in that cylinder is 160psi and not 70psi anymore. So guess what jack, my home repair job is better than a engine removal or replacement that would have costed me thousands. Dont get mad at me cos you had to remove your engine for a rebuild, unlike me. Why do (un-necessary work), like buying a new engine or rebuild engine, when you can just repair what is needed. I did just that and my engine is in 100% running order.

You need more faith in what you do, just dont be afraid to fix what is only required. For me it was just 1 broken piston. So all i did was remove head, remove piston, new piston in, head back on and wallaa. I did a comprehensive engine fixup with engine still inside. The piston rings were fine, if they wearnt, do you think i would have driven the car if they were damaged, NO.

If anyone wants to know the full story, go to youtube profile TheStarletGT and watch the vids.
