4efe turbo conversion??is it worth it for power gains?

the standard ecu cannot 'see' boost, only vacuum, so won't fuel anywhere near enough on boost.

best way is a full conversion, or better still, the real deal.

EP82 engine loom and ECU only, running through the NA fusebox, with starting and charging cicuits retained from the NA loom too.

havnt looked into it much i admit but it looks pretty simple to swap the engine looms? just a simple pull out and put back in job!

you could get a crashed Gt for £500, an n/a starlet with a knackered engine for a few hundred ££££ then do the rest yourself.
if your lucky and on a really tight budget you could have a sleeper 4efte powered starlet for about £1000 up and running.

but to be honest cal it does look as though you are out of your depth already and you havnt even started.

if i got a glanza engine loom and ecu would i have to splice it into much?ho can i tell where all connectors etc go?

From my viewpoint turbo'ing the 4EFE is a lot more trouble than just transplanting a 4EFTE in. You get a stronger, more reliable base to build on which is a major bonus in the long run.

The trackstar was plug and play - No splicing, cutting, soldering or cursing at the wiring required. That's the way I wanted it done and that's the way I did it.

All you need is the donor car, some time and the initative.

Tons of research my friend, I mean hours of staring at ecu pinouts, plug ends and then and only then will you still need to research. here in the US it is the biggest drawback to the whole ep 82/91 swap. There are just a handfull of people that have and still do the wiring swap for a price (up to $500) I myself was fortunate enough to acquire a converted harness for a great price, But im still not in the clear I still have to swap the about a total of 6 sensors and the injector plugs. swapping out motors = easy, rewiring the motor= headache
It's not impossible but still not easy
have a look at this not a step by step but it helped me......

hope this helps!!!!

Surely you could pick up a cheap reliable gt over there?
Mines worked out at £2,600 or €3,500.
Its not mint but its not a pile either. the only thing wrong with it was a scrape on the back bumper which still has to be resprayed.

I used to know a lad here who done a bolt on turbo conversion(dont know the details apart from boosting .5bar) , within 2 weeks the car blew up.

No offence but it doesnt seem that you'd be able to do it safely.you'd have to remove a lot of key parts of the car and if you missed one small thing it could put lives at risk.
Same with the engine conversion aswell, and i doubt you have a lift for an engine?

Id say just save for a ep82 or 91.

i know it was said already but i just thought id back it up with why:D

lucky you! ours wasn't quite so simple, mostly cos the guy who took the loom out cut it clean in half at the bulkhead, leaving us with a plate of spaghetti to splice back together :flame:

we reduced the turbo loom to pretty much ignition and fuelling, leaving as much of the NA loom intact as possible.

To avoid the blasted soldering iron I basically just reshelled a 1989 EP82 GT.

Here's a few pics of the trackstar minus the shell. Just add a bucket of fuel and a battery and we're away..

You're a little far away lad.

Just wait for a glanza to crash then reshell the bugger.

One thing to pickup on from the above : Insure it properly all mods declared - the authorities are wise to these sleeper starlets nowadays. A ban will be handed out if it goes to court as they love making an example.

cheers jay, this is getting complex now, will sort it out some way though.

not really, the loom is the only hassle.

you could do what streetracer starlet did and transplant the entire glanza loom into the na, there are a few differences i think, but not as much of a headache as splicing would be.

so,basically what il do,buy a damaged gt-glanza yeah,and buy a abused-ep80-ep91

then reshell a gt into the ep80,or the glanza into the ep91?that would be easier actually....its basically just building a gt-glanza isnt it?:):D thanks guys, jay did you sue the gts whole loom for the trackstar?

Yes. Removed engine, looms, ECU, dash cluster, all control units. Threw GT away. Put GT stuff into empty EP80 shell. Plugged. Played.
