i set off from swindon to visit my folks in brum, got about a mile from home ,a country road called washpool is what i a have to drive through, and have driven it hundreds of times, turned left into the road, couple of hundred yards up is a blind left bend,
then couple hundred yards and a hump back bridge which goes into a blind right bend. the bridge is wide enough for just one car. road is 2 lanes.so i went round the left bend doin 15mph, and then on to the straight, i was aproaching the bridge when a grey clio comes flying round the left bend straight onto the bridge, there was a woman in the driver seet, she must have doing about 40 mph, the road is 30 mph zone, but i have seen cars do far more that that there..theres a few houses either side of the bridge too..
anyway, she comes flying round the bend and notices me approaching the bridge, i am sure she has hit her brakes to try and stop, i saw her and slammed my anchors, and grabbed the steering wheel with both hands braced for impact.withing a second there was almighty bang,
my airbags went off, the jolt of the bump threw me forward and the airbags went off in my face which threw me back into the head retsraint.my engine died instantly.
i was stunned for a few moments, did not know where i was ,.
when the smoke from inside and outside my car cleared i saw people from the house had arrived at the scene, they must have heard the impact.
a nice elderly chap came to me and asked if i was ok, told me dont move just yet, get yourself together before you try getting out.
i could hear kids crying in the other car, i asked him to check on the kids.
turns out the lady had her husband and 2 kids in the car with her.
couple of minutes later the man came back and said if you are feeling upto it try get out the car..
i tried open the door and it only moved about a foot. he pulled the door and i clambered out, he helped me to the footpath and i sat down, holding my head and ribcage. the lady's husband comes out of their car and shouts to me you should be praying my kids are ok , if they are hurt i will drag you through court and sue you for every penny you got,the man helping me says don't worry he's in shock and will calm down.
looked at both cars few minutes later when i managed to get my bearings, her car was a grey 02 plate clio, she had damage to drivers side headlight, wing, bumper and bonnet, but couldnt see any leeks,
mine on the other hand ...
take a look..
bumper, bonnet , wing, head light , indicator, windscreen, radiator, and possibly a lot more,
after the bump either she reversed her car or the car rolled back as she had stopped about 5 or more meters away from my car.
turns out a policeman lives literally by the side of the road where i had the bump,
he was off duty at the time,
he came out side, made sure everyone was ok, the family in the clio said they were fine but i said i felt bad, and sick,
he called for paramedics, who arrived with the police about 10 minutes later, the paramedic checked me over and said it doesnt look like i have broken anything but its shock and the airbags going off that has stunned and hurt me and he told me if i feel worse to go hospital. the other family said they were ok, then when he was bout to leave the driver complained of some pain , possibly wiplash.
police were on scene now, they took my details, and hers , gave us details of each other and the officers on scene,
then the officer asked me what happend, i told him , and he sai it doesnt look like either of you have skidded as there are no marks to say that, either way it will be hard to prrve who is at fault, so we just let insurance deal with it, then i was asked if i had recovery, i told him i was with AA, he tells me they wont pick up a crashed car, so he says he will call local compny for me who will be collect the car to their depo, where i can remove my belongings and let insurance deal with rest,i then ring Emma to tell her what has happend, she was really upset, i tell her i am not bleeding and there is no broken bones, just shaken up and in pain thats all,.
10 minutes later the recovery company arrives with 2 trucks,
both cars were taken to the same place,
the police man comes over to me and says ,looks like your car has ended up worse off, and it mite get written off,
i agree with him, he says its a shame , it looked really nice, he then says to me , when you get to garage to remove your belongings , take your road tax off, you can claim 6 months back,
i thank him for telling me and then my car is loaded up on the truck,i get in and we get to the depo,
my car is off loaded while i ring my father in law for a lift,
i removed my belongings and while i was taking my tools from the boot, i noticed the mountings for the parcel shelf on the back had been smashed, the force of the bump was that bad that the opposite corner rear parcel shelf mountings broke.., tok a foto of the engine bay, and left with my father in law,
took some painkillers when i get home, then couple hours later I decided to go to hospital, Emma's mum kindly took me there, we spent about an hour there, got examined and told, luckily i havent broken any thing its muscular pain and because i have been shaken violently, pains will probably get worse over the next few days, and if they get really bad, then come back or go see GP,
got back home and my head was still banging like a drum,
all i can see is the accident being replayed in my head, everytime i close my eyes,
have been in bed all day, just got out,had a piece of toast but feel sick, rang the insurance and thought i would post this, but now i am feeling tired again and my neck is killing me, i have sore throat and feel like my neck has been crushed,
gonna go back to bed as i can barely sit up now..
bye for now...
