Are our ep's better than the Japanese ep's

The way I see it the Japanese tuning companies are the Elite.Saying that they had unlimited budgets.I rekon there are a few people on here who could outdo the Japanese if they had the budget.Private owners in Japan verses private owners on here the people on here win hands down.Saying that there are exceptions for example my 1500 GT it was built by a private owner and is a quality build. Most Japanese private builders didn't go as far as private owners here tend to do.
well said.:)

I don't think we can beat JDM - they have serious weapons yes they don't need to post them on forums.

Japanese don't have unlimited budgets thats part of why their parts are expensive, because people don't want to have to question if a manifold will break. Also because budgets are tight they have to modify stuff properly and planned, so no just throwing parts on a car to experiment. The package on the car has to be working from tick over.

Shops in Japan are aware of the prices of their parts and offer financing. JAM, HKS, and even HRF had store credit cards. That's how people were able to afford their parts.

Well there not really going to be to tight when building a car to represent their company to fair. Thats why the majority of mental ep's over there are usually company cars.

Well are we talking about company cars or private cars? I don't know of any company that builds a promo car that doesn't max out their budget. Look at those guys at Norris Designs. Are they even still in business, the money they've spent on that shortwheel base Evolution.

Unlimited

The post said Japanese Tuning Companies had unlimited budgets which is fact.Private Japanese individuals tuning thier own car were the same as the rest of us and had very limited budgets.

I would have said that our demo no2 EP82 that was featured in Japanese Performance would have been on par if not faster than the JAM Racing EP91 around a short circuit like Tsukuba, who knows. Rather than focusing on crazy power we concentrated on engine response, power to ground and chassis stability similar to their ethos.

With our demo no1 we followed the exact spec of HRF and tried to improve it. Engine wise was near on identical but we would have been around 50kg lighter with polycarb windows and carbon fibre body panels. Their chassis/suspension setup was far more basic than ours and we also had a full weld in FIA roll cage with more points and front strut triangulation bars connecting the front of the car, their roll cage was very basic although lighter than ours.

Regardless we already had proved what could be done with no2 and just couldn't warrant the remainder cost for no1, the market just isn't big enough and we were close to 40k expenditure over the 3 years. This doesn't mean it had 40k's worth of parts but over the three years I experimented with different setups, bought the wrong parts, replaced them until it was exactly how I wanted it. This is simply why I have so much EP knowledge as I've pretty much looked at most of the available parts over 3 years trying to build the worlds maddest Starlet. With what we had left to spend it was time to move on, a real shame but it just wasn't viable :(

Anyhow the shell with FIA roll cage is going up next week on ebay so keep an eye as it will start at half of what we spent on it.

Cheers

Why not mate? It's there to be copied that's the whole point of a demo car, to demonstrate what we can do so feel free to copy and improve, always something you can do! :):) Take a good idea and make it better how do you think the whole tuning world works! If everyone did there own thing and tried to re-invent the wheel then people would need millions in R&D, some do re-invent the wheel when it comes to tuning but it's not cheap so that's why a lot use methods that have already been tried and tested.

It is a shame I must admit but we just need to be realistic, we've proved we can build some bloody special Starlets so that's enough really. I know our car could have done at least 190mhp with the ratios (I don't know if the body panels would have lasted or if it would have been aerodynamically stable enough or even aerodynamic as they are boxy) and at least high 11sec quarters to start with but we will have to just guess at that as it's all theoretical. Around the track I just can't imagine, really do dream about it the final incarnation!

I'll see if we can get the KP into D1 first but the car and myself have a long way to go. It's a lot cheaper in the long run to do and the car is already extremely capable as is it just needs a new engine at some point and some tweaking to the chassis and suspension but no rush it just needs a 20v and a big turbo!! When Kevin is bored with the Corolla I'll steal the engine while he isn't looking ;)

It just won't cost anything like the demo no1 as the KP has already been exploited in every area as it's been around for twice as long so there is twice the info and less testing is needed as we can base ours on other successful examples, all in English and not Japanese as the KP is a popular drift car in many English speaking countries so there is a wealth of information. We we hopefully get more sponsors this time round which will reduce the burden ten fold. If a KP can win the D1 championships with ford running gear (booooo!!) then I'm sure our AE86 based one can do bloody well, watch this space and cross your fingers! I just need more confidence and a better practice car as I am just too scared about dinking the KP until the airfield DWYB days start in the next few months. Obviously with it sitting there it's hard to resist! :)
