id def have a clean mk1 in the future!
glanza's just arent for me lol (though ive seen some nice white ones locally!)

its a bit like golfs, mk1 2 and mk3s, mk3s may have been slightly better advanced in some ways, but the mk1 and 2's are stuff of legend!!

How rude Philpi! Only messing,if Jay was extremely drunk one night and offered a swap for his mk1 id bite his arm off!!

Just as said above, give the engine bay a touch, maybe to the car to some local car events, you might catch someones eye

apart from that its just waiting for the right buyer

Rick there is nothing wrong with your car man. The colour is awesome and the Spec's are good, people are just being picky and wanting Glanza's cos there "cool". Just the way of the world dude. Dont worry your turn will come.

to be honest i dont think u should even consider reducing the price at all, ever, cars like this will start increasing in value if kept in this sort of condition!

take some good pics and see how the sale goes. all the best from me. (though you should keep it!)

@chris, lol sorry mate, at least i mentioned your glanza! its super clean.

if it were me i would spend the 3.5k on a newer starlet, it is nice but in my head the newer the car the more money you can get when it comes to sell it again. iv seen td04 powered n regs going for less than 4k with plenty supporting mods. maybe not as clean as yours but its a 96 not a 90-91

@starlet3sgte - No offence taken mate. It all comes down to personal preference. I love the standard look of the GT apart from the wheels and I think the Blitz rims suit it better than anything else would, also the wheels are sooooooo rare. I love to have rare items on the car, it makes it that bit more special in my opinion.

@muthaducka - Thanks for the ideas mate. My reason for putting the mileage is that it's always the first question anybody will ask about it, and I don't have anything to hide (although I do take your point). Also with the engine bay, I was tempted to clean it up and make the pipes shiney but I want the new owner to know exactly what my car is, it gets used and therefore the engine bay gets dirty, especially with the breather filter. I don't want anything to be false with what I tell people, I'm hoping that people can see through that bit of dirt for what the car is.....But then again I'm probably expecting too much LOL!!!!

@Toms kitted ep82 - Yeah, I think thats what most people are thinking. I do realise that td04 ones go for a bit more but I think people are either not taking into consideration what thats going to do to insurance or whether they just don't tell the insurance company and then risk not being insured. It's only since getting the Evo that my insurance has come down to a reasonable level and of course everything is declared on mine. I wonder how many other owners can say the same? I must say though that it's much easier to get insured on this car as opposed to something with a front mount and different turbo etc.

Thansk for all of the comments and ideas guys, keep em coming.

well like i said mate it may be a g reg and has been here 8 years but it is clean, has been well looked after and would be an ideal enthusiasts car as its the original mk1. only thing i dont like about these gts are the rear lights i think they make the car look older than it is. but hope you get it sold. i bet it took alot of persuasion to let it go an d get something different though. especially after 8 years of ownership

Personally i prefer the older shape car's, especially the look of the GT.

Alot of people i speak to say the Glanza is FEMININE and girly with its soft curv's...

...I love my Glanza, shes lovely, so sexy ;)

I do love the GTs though, far more aggressive looking and unusual. I bought a Glanza for "newness", but I noticed a lot of Gt/Glanzas for very cheap in Autotrader yesterday, for around £2500, a lot of balls, most of the people selling them dont have a clue about them, the descriptions are all shit, with errors in them.

I wouldnt worry too much, the prices will come back up i reckon.

I think the UK is the opposite of here, we have millions of jap cars (and a fair few aussie) but not many euros, where as they are the opposite.

still cant believe the prices you guys pay for gt's though, you say 2500 pounds is cheap for a gt and that works out to being over $6500 nzd. my mk1 gt cost $1500 nzd which is about 550 gbp... nuff said.

the cost of importing keeps the cost of starlets up here in the uk

Hi Rick

It could quite simply be the timing (c/crunch) and the right person hasn't seen your car yet.

I still reckon you should buff up the engine bay. I know the thinking behind leaving the engine bay as is, i.e. nothing to hide, it's original and used every day but I think that's more likely to be used on a more highly sort after classic car appealing to an older audience. I reckon most gt owners are in the younger group, who would go for the cleaner look, a buff classic. Gear box oil is supposed to be fantastic at buffing up rubber hose / tube. I reckon it would make the world of difference.

I got the TD04, forged pistons and brand new rota's and tyres for £3600. I was trying to fing out more information about the car and found that it was sold about 6 months earlier for about £2.5k! not with some of the new bits on it but I think your asking the top price bracket for a none TD04 model etc.

Insurance wise, I'm surpised, I bought the car expecting to just deal with the insurance because I'm 30 with 5 no years and live in a reasonable area but not true. With mods declared the quotes I got where horrific. I've had to insure it as a classic car (with photos but not mods declared). I will try and sort it out properly next year but for the value of the car, I can't warrant spending 1k on insurance. It's a bit off topic but thought I'd responde to your comments about insurance.

Good luck with the sale, you may just have to wait a while to get the right price.

Just look at it this way - its better it takes awhile and goes to the right/deserving owner :)

PPl's money is tight everywhere at the mo, prob playing a big part. Ben is on about selling his GT after Trax in September so were probably going to be in the same position. But i will accept the fact now that the sale will take ages.

I'd buy your car if I was looking for a GT.

When GTti parts get (even) rarer, I'm pretty sure I will sell one of the Daihatsu's and build an EP82 beast.

It's been said previously, but you've not misvalued your car, Rick.

It is worth what it's up forsale at, and you will eventually get it, it's just obviously a little frustrating.

4 months ago, I paid £4100 for my Quad GT which I beleive is in the same condition as yours, ie. how they should be, and I look around now and see them a lot cheaper, but then realise that the're no where near as good.

Yours would've definately been the one if I'd found the website before my car!

Also, something else which has been loosely touched on here.. Will people genuinely pay more for a modified one? FMIC, Hybrid, Good electronics?

Tommy.

I think you have a point about the engine bay mate, next day off I'm going to give it a good clean and make it look shiney.

With regards to the insurance issue, you're 30 and struggled to get a TD04 insured, imagine how younger people would struggle and then just not bother declaring the mods. This is one of the issues I'm talking about, a TD04 setup is great but when it comes to insurance the cost of it would not make it viable for most people so they face the decision:

1) Do I declare everything and pay the MASSIVE premium for the insurance?

Or

2) Do I just say it's a standard GT and take the risk of not being insured?

At least with a CT9 and a top mount you can declare everything and still pay a reasonable price.

I pay £1000 for my insurance with ALL MODS DECLARED. You probably know my mod list is pretty extensive.

I insured when I was 24 (25 now), so once I renew I expect it do drop a lot due to my age. Also, last time I checked, my postcode was the second to last WORST band there was.

I have 5 years no claims, but considering my area and mods it is not that bad a premium. Should be a lot less next year.

Oh dont get me wrong, I do love the look on a standard kit, i would say thats more Very clean and mint rather then one of the nicest :) If that makes sense.... As youve stated from the beginning its down to your and each opinion.... Im surprised no-one has snapped it up in the condition its in...

good luck anyway pal...

Hi guys, as some of you might be aware I am selling my GT. I have owned it for just over 8 years and she is in great condition and is still one of the nicest condition GT's I've ever seen. When I put it up for sale I expected people to bite my arm off as I challenge anybody to find such a nice GT which has been owned by the same owner for the last 8 years. But people just don't seem interested in it.

Personally I think that everybody seems to be after Glanzas and nobody seems to like the GT's anymore. What ever happened to people wanting to be different? My Mk1 is very individual and I am a real purist when it comes to modding and personally (I know I'm biased) but I consider it to be one of the nicest GT's on here, or anywhere for that matter. I have some really rare items on it but it still stays true to the origional GT design, and she is as quick as you like, and in 8 years she has never let me down once.

Here she is:

What do you guys think the problem is cause I'm well confused.:(

I think i looked at this car at the japshow ? £3500 tbh for a Mk1 is very high priced.. Im sorry for that price i want something very special.!!.. Yes your car is worth it.. but the preparation is the key to selling your GT And Tbh the engine bay is filthy..tyres need cleaning and the car needs a real good detailed finish...
My car was sold for £3000 2 days after posting online for sale and it was knowhere Near as modified as your car... apart from lowering spings it was stock.. But it was the preparation that sold the car...
hope this helps...:homer:
