Folks,

Just a heads up really, for anyone that hasnt cleaned beneath the sill trims or behind the arch liners,
The areas mentioned collect alot of mud and dirt, this can lead to rust/corrosion, if not cleaned regular.

Ive only noticed this as im undersealing the underside of the car at the moment, and when i went to take the trims/liners off, there is a lot of grime built up.

The biggest one being, right behind the front wheels, where the arch liner protects the door, there is a cavity that collects alot of mud.

See pic,

This is the cavity at the bottom, cleaned out ready to be done.

This is a little amount of mud i took out, from the sill trims, cavity etc.

Basiclly its a heads up, if you want to keep your Gt fresh.

It will be undersealed from the factory but not to the standards for the road conditions in the UK unfortunatly.

Very true, but im doing it again, as its been in the country since 03.
Theres no underseal behind the arch liners or sill trims, hence the reason i posted, to give everyone a heads up.

Yep it's a common Toyota problem. When I had my Mk1 MR2, the same area around the back of the wing was filled with mud and rotten leaves. Its one of the first places that the body rot starts.

i've waxoyled all under the front and rear arches, round the rear bumper area and spare wheel well, inside the doors and rear quarters, pretty much everywhere actually :).

just waiting to get access to a ramp so i can do the floor pans and exhaust tunnel.

it'll never rust i hope, this treatment worked wonders on my mk1 'scort and mini.

as you can see i bollocked it on :D

I found rust inside the sills of a few breakers so prevention is better than cure. Both had been on the UK roads a long time. The trackcar is quite rusty too seeing as it's a UK vehicle.

Same for the GTti, I had to replace both front wings due to this.

Use some hammerite or kurust on it first before undersealing it. This has a chemical reaction with rust and basically cures it.

If it's already rusting then underseal won't do anything, it'll still be rusting under this and all sorts will get trapped in the underseal. Hence why I say use kurust on those rusty places first :)

how are the rear turrets on your gtti? most of the ones i've worked on in the past have been in pretty poor shape.

If you choose to underseal your car your self, whats the best way to do it. Do you have to clean the underside of the car so that its spot less or what?
