youre missing the point. if for example you put 4 pots off an st205 on your car it would probably lock up all over the place with medium pedal pressure. thats not really safe now is it?

was at scrap yard today and he had a celica gt and it had 285mm disc's and twin pot calipers, thinking of buying the calipers and getting uprated celica gt and pads

theres not much advantage getting uprated discs but i got ebc redstuff pads for mine and they work very well.

Update:

I have got a set of twin pot calipers and discs last weekend. They should keep me busy this weekend as I will carry out a trial fit on my EP82. Will update you guys in a couple of days.

I havent read all bits of this thread but i will say what i know.

Yes i believe you are right about the levin ae101/111 being direct bolt ons, have no info personally on this.

As for the celica calipers.

Right,

ST165 GT4 has ~ 260mm 2 pot calipers
UK ST185 has ~280mm 1 pot calipers
JDM ST185 early has same (i think they are same as 165 anyway) ~ 260mm 2 pots
JDM late has same as UK, 280mm 1 pot

ST205 have monster 4 pots up front, 310mm IIRC and something like 30mm thick! they can bolt onto the starlet hub quite simply but not sure about discs.

I know on a Mk1 mr2 when bolted on the discs need machining down to approx 300mm. This would give monster stopping power but as a minimum good clearance 16's would be needed, and more likely 17's in most cases.

As for MK2 MR2 i dont know where the rumour started that this bolt on. They do not. Starlet/mk1 mr2/celica mounting holes are 131mm apart. The Mk2 mr2 is 150 for some strange reason. I do however believe the Mk2 mr2 uses the same calipers as the celica, its just the carrier is different, but im not 100% certain on this.

Pumba have the discs been reduced in size or are u gettin a bracket made upto accomodate the full 275mm?

does any1 kno who can produce a bracket to fit the full 275mm disc on? as it stands the Levin callipers mount str8 to the hub but will not allow the disc on at full size

How are the wheels anyway Justin???

Hi Chris, actually I haven't been around to fit the wheels as the winter falls in now. I am currently using a cheap set alloys with snow tyres for the winter. What I did is washed and really clean them, then nicely store them in the hut for summer next year. :)

Hi, I haven't got the time to trial fit the brakes on my EP82 yet. But I think if the discs are too big, you can easily grind them down from any metal work factory. Hope that help. :)

I have a set of Levin sss front brakes on my car !
for instalation I used: grinded disks(255-260mm), wheel spacers - I used 10mm but my mate did 6mm and its ok, longer studs - approximately 10mm longer then starlet ones, be careful, if u are going to custom make them - be sure that the patter near the hat(dont know how its called) is the same as yours. Or use studs from LandCruiser with allow rims - they shoud fit without problem. I used subaru studs and had some big problems with drilling holes... didnt fill much difference on the street but they did quite good on sprints and track - they better deal with overheating... need some better pads I think to be able to feal the real difference they make.
would be interested in caliper spacers too ;)

Just an update guys (and girls). I carried out a trial fit on the new brakes to my EP82 today. The calipers and it's carrier bolted straight on, and to my surprise, there is plenty space left on the calipers edge for the 277mm disc to go on there! (the nrake carrier is longer than the standard one) However, I still need a 10mm spacer behind the disc and longer wheel studs. Also, the disc required 3 holes to be drilled to make 4 x 100PCD. I will keep updating this thread until I complete this conversion. Ta.

Those discs and calipers look like the ST165 ones Pumba. Tried fitting them last week but wasnt really worth the bother as the disc is practically the same size and the size of the pad is also practically the same. I might try fitting Late EK9 Type-R Front Discs and Calipers.

lots of people are using dave burwash's big brake kit ( 4 pot calipers )

and nobody has complained about that?

im not doubting they might be a bit too much but i havent heard of anybody that locks up. and surely with abs it wont do it neway

Goldenvtr: I have no idea which model of Toyota this brakes are from to be honest, because when I bought it from the scrap yard, the bloke there told me that these are all the calipers from all over the Toyota vehicles that he breaks. I measures the bolt distance (131mm apart c/c) and also checked their discs diameter from the pile, base on my blind guess. Then, finally I took the risk of buying these set of 2002 model 02reg Toyota brakes with twin pots calipers 131mm bolt apart, and 5 holes 277mm x 27mm discs. They are quite new as you can see from the pic. I think I might give that Prius disc a trial if it also fill the gap in the new calipers.

Damage (Danny): Those brakes are not from any ST165 or 185 Celica as I can see some writing on them by 02 reg (2002), Toyota. They are as new from appearance and the discs are 277mm x 27mm with 5 holes pattern. The centre bore is 55mm which match with our EP82 later model. Their pads is much longer than the standard one too. If I can't place the caliper carrier behind the hub bracket, then I will need at least a 10mm spacer behind the new discs, and extended wheel studs (+13mm) from Ebay. Hope everything will turn out easier once I sort it.

Oh, also I have got a full set of rear hub, brakes and cables from a breaker here. I will refurbish them and put them on as well. So, basically the whole brakes, which is crap, on my EP82 will be replaced looking by the end of this month.
