can a starlet or glanza ever handle like an EK9

Hasn't been proven on any stage here in Jamaica. Starlets routinely slaughter Civics in Motorsports. My friend's EP runs with rally prepared Lancer Evolutions and Impreza. He humbled a Hyundai F2 car last month.

Since this thread was created, I have had my rear ARB and TRD LSD fitted.

You can read how much I rate my LSD by clicking Here.

In regards to the rear ARB. Before it was fitted, when I took sharp corners at speed, the rear used to bounce around and unsettle, like there was roll.

The ARB is on the middle setting (its the adjustable) and the roll has now dissapeared.

Others had also mentioned that when they fitted their LSD, the backend used to try and overtake the front while taking sharp corners really hard, due to the LSD really pulling you in and around the corner.

My car is really stable thou. The LSD really pulls you around the corner, but the backend is stable and I have not felt it breaking loose yet. Maybe the ARB has something to do with this?

I am running 15" tyres with Eagle F1's, D2 coilovers, anti lift kit, TRD engine mounts, TRD helical LSD, rear ARB, panhard rod and others bits I probabaly can't remember.

The only limiting factor I feel at the moment are the tyres. I was testing the LSD on a very large roundabout and it performed perfectly, dragging me in at any speed, but I felt like the front tyres were letting me down. I am not sure if the tyre walls were failing or what...maybe I'm wrong and it's in my head. Or maybe because the front wheels have to steer and drive the car forward, they were simply of on the limit of a FF setup?

What sort of pressure change is needed when moving from 14" to 15" rims? Maybe the pressures have something to do with it?

None.

Btw I'd say an LSD pulls you "out" of the corner rather than around it.

Huh?

I was driving around a roundabout, obviously to the right and the car was pulling me towards it, as 'into' the corner?????

Maybe its just my termanology!?

I see what you mean thou if it was a winding road or track. This was literally going around in a circle.

Well it'll pull you where the wheels are pointing, or which ever wheel has traction.

But to take a corner you are slow in then fast out / through, turning as little as possible.

i no wat you mean gee, it feels like it actually pulls you into the corner further than you actually turn sort of thing, so you need to attack a corner differently!

I have a black EK9 and 2 black Glanzas (well one and another on its way from Japan)
I think the EK 9 is awesome, though the tyre wall is high with the original 195 55 15 tyres on.
I put 16" wheels on the Glanza with 205 tyres and thin walls (45 I think) it grips like anything. My only problem with the Starlet is the amount of body roll compared to the EK9 which stays flat.
The one coming from japan has different suspension, so interesting to see what thats like.:)

We know that from factory the handeling of the EK9 far exceeds that of a Starlet, therefore the original thread starter wanted to know if a Starlet could be made to handle aswell as an EK9.

Therefore, can you please advise on the additional chassis and suspension modifications your EP's have?

The one I have now is standard, but with 16" wheels and Toyo Proxies.
I believe the one coming is lowered but I dont know more than that at the moment.
I reckon stiffer springs should do the job though.

Ah I see.

There are so many suspension and chassis mods out there for the EP, the list is endless! I bet they can handle a lot better than you first expected, if you have only upgraded your rims and tyre combo.

I agree a wheel size or 2 bigger can make it handle better the bodyroll with stock suspension and stock rims is terrible lol

I have the Whiteline 22mm front bar. Makes a difference based on your wheel package. Other than that the rear bar should be enough.

I'm sticking with 15" light weight rims. Less unsprung weight helps with acceleration and handeling.

Big rims are just for looks! :D
