Car driving me mental

definately a rotating noise, i cant see why it would be a shock.

ive heard it on my mates car, his piston from the brakes was sticking

i would like to hear what the problem actually turns out to be

Definately! Keep us updated mate!

Very true! I'm just telling you to try a bunch of things, hoping we'll hit something! lol

Why did he suggest it might be suspension/bush though? Did he take it for a test drive?

lol he was with me when i was driving it back and to be honest he was only suggesting as cant think of anything else to be the problem.

i have listened to that clip over like 20 times!!

but the thing is ive heard it plenty of times (not on my car).

it has to be either backing plate it scraping due to when putting the wheel on you accidently bent it.

the wheel bearing WILL make that noise, not a screeching noise, more like a grinding noise

the piston in the caliper may be sticking

also happens when the brake pads have no life left in them and they are scraping metal to metal

i cant see why the shock or the bushes would make a rotating noise

Near the end i were hitting the brakes, even when im not hitting the brakes it still makes the noise.but at the end because i slowled down alot you can hear the noise more clearler.

Whats wrong with his topmount / shock to make that sort of noise then?

I'm tempted to guess at wheel bearing lol

Lol already checked wheel bearing and it isnt that, the wheel bearing wouldnt make a noise like that, the screetching nose a wheel bearing makes is more like a high pitch screetching noise, this noise im getting isnt really high lol (if that makes sense)

plus garage i took it to checked it out and have out ruled the possibility of being a wheel bearing.

it maybe the bastard didnt check properly though!

A wheel bearing does not make a high pitch noise mate, it was a bassy whirring noise when mine went.

Wheel bearing makes a noise as if two pieces of metal are rubbing against each other without lube. Doesnt seem to be present in the vid, but hard to tell via a video!! Its not real life!!

Its hard to diagnose a prob over the net as you know, nothing could be wrong with his top mount but from the vid it sounds suspension related because as the car is moving and bouncing around the noise is present, indicating a suspension prob. Top mounts are first to go due to old age, shocks just normally pop, and the bush at the end normally wears away. Any of these can be the problem if the suspension hasnt been changed since the car was new.

lol personally it feels like something is touching while the wheels turn, the faster i go you cant hear it much as the wheels be moving fast, when i slow down you can hear it more.it might be wheel bearing, not sure whaat to say at this moment.

Yeah it is hard. I listened to the vid and the noise gets louder as he accelerates and is definately something rotating! Could be a really, really damaged bearing or the creaking at the beginning of the vid could be suspension related but towards the end its definately something rotating/moving. Who knows, I dunno, we shall see!

one thing im P'd off about is the creeking has always been there, only recently got worser, took it to WRC and they said all it was is the clunking noise from LSD.

Well it wouldnt be any harm in getting both wheel bearings replaced. All starlet bearings are the same, so you can get them in a motor factors and most places wont charge too much if you bring in both hubs to get them pressed in/out.

You sure about that? I forked out £45 for a EP82 specific bearing. They'll want more than that at Motor Factors if its for an import model; must be some difference? Plus you'll need new seals.

I should elaborate! lol! ep82 non turbo and turbo are the same, as are ep91 turbo and non turbo. 99.9999999% sure! They sell them in my local motor factors anyway and I had no problem getting them when I needed them.

Edit, also its sold in a kit, so seals and everything is included. Depends on your motor factors though.
