Drove a V Tec

Super Mod (極度の調整器)
At the end of the day, it's all about what floats your boat. My Accord Type-R is a very nice car, solid as hell, and handles superbly. As it's got a 'proper' VTEC, it sounds as good as it goes too. All depends on what you're after at the end of the day... I also drove an ITR 2-weeks after they hit the showrooms in the UK, and that was an awesome car.

So... Excellent cars, with handling that could teach the bods at Toyota a thing or 2... However, to compare them to turbo's all the time is daft... Each are different, and should be treated as such.

I had a spin in a friend Accord type-r was lovely car, I didn't think the vtec was a massive increase in power but was nice non the less.

I let a friend drive my GT last nite, he has a fairy well modded Civic Type R, mines running 225bhp on the TD04 and he couldn't wipe the smile from his face he just loved 3rd gear the rpm needle rising at the same rate as the speedo.

He got out saying he wants a turbo lol :)

I tend to use the Glanza around town as it feels nippier. To make the Honda go quick you have to thrash it like you hired it, and its just not the thing to do in a built up area.
Ive had 3 Prelude 2.2 VTECs, a Civic Jordan VTI and a Civic SIR and they are all good at different things.
The jordan is not a Hot hatch in the same way the EK9 is, the EK9 shakes your fillings out, jordans (UK VTI- S) too heavy and numb to drive.
Preludes handle mint at high speed corners, especially when you get used to the 4WS. They are cheap now too. I sold a dark metalic blue UK one in mint condition for just £1800......what I paid for it 9 months before!
Civic SIRs are cracking too if you ever get a chance of an older EG6 model (1992-1995) they put a smile on yer face.

Drove a civic Type R not long after they were released, the breadvan shape, and hated every second of it!

Look good, sound good, built well but was SOOOOOOOOO flat below 6K rpm wouldn't have one EVER!

Having driven a turbo ibiza for 3 1/2 yrs before that.

The salesman said how was it???
I said stick a turbo on it and you've got an ace car!

He thought he was gettin a deffo sale......NOPE:p

I expected magic things to happen in V-TEC.....i'm still waiting 5yrs later:homer: Very disappointing i must say.
If i'd never driven a turbo then i would probably have liked it better but it's just no comparison to me.

but its still N/A dude...

I dont look at vtec as being performance enhancing... I look at it as having a different cam profile to allow it be more economical for when you are not driving it quickly.

Is putting wilder cams with higher lift and more duration not a performance enchancment? So why on the honda they are not? The honda has 2 sets of cams in 1 , standard profile ones for normal road use and racing profile When it change to the bigger lobes (when the V-tec is working ) and if you look at a cylinder head of a 16 v-tec engine you would be surprized with the size of the intake and exhaust ports (they are huge so they can cope with the wild cam lubes )so saying that they are not a performance enchancment doesnt sound right as they give a big performance enhancement (they are a racing engine kept under cover until the v-tec kick in!). There are standard ITR's here running 13.3's 1/4 mile so they must have a good engine too achive that time wioth a 1.8 ltr N/A engine !

I can't see how a standard 1800 n/a type r can be doing 13's that comment literally made me crack up even turbo ones over here are doing 13's so I can't see how a stock standard one would be doing 13's unless it's down a really steep hill lol. A 4age 16 valve with 20 valve quad throttle bodies sounds better than any vtec imo you would need to spend over $10,000 on a type r to be doing 13's as the ones over in nz have spent well over that on a turbo setup

your choice.....

ya i agree totally wit scotty01,if you havent driven a turbo car then you would find the vtec engines brilliant to other types of n/a engines.my buddy has an ek9 type r in an sir body so its a real sleeper because people think that its nothing but an sir.anyway he also has a glanza he is just 17 i know its unfair,so the day he bought the civic he brought it out hoping it would be alot quicker than his glanza he was disapointed,he has since added decat and buddy club spec 2 exhaust(ridiculously loud)and he now believes his civic is faster but i still dont think it is as we where driving next to eachotha and were vry close.he also believes that the vtec thing is incredible:)i like it but i know better things.anyway were all jap car fans so we should just appreciate the different styled engines that those clever fellas have built and role on in the turbos and vtecs:p

I have a 98 jdm type r integra,i must say it has not met my expectations at all its kind of a two faced car. its not much faster than my old glanza tbh,as an everyday driver its boring as you dont get much chances to use the vtec by the time you hit 6,000 revs you have caught up with the car infront, but in saying that i think they belong on the twisty back roads, its when you can get the full potential out of the car and where they come alive.i can see why they appeal to people so much as an all round package they are a great car bullet proof reliability, great handling, quick enough.Just as an every day drive they arent that exciting find it very boring.

I used to have a n/a Toyota Levin 4age 16 valve it was alright to drive for the first few months then it just felt boring got sick of revving the s**t outta it to get it moving. I sold it bought my glanza and I will never buy a n/a car again too boring to drive imho and I wouldn't want to be seen dead driving around in a honda :p lol

Drive a proper N/A car like a a V8/10/12 that has alot of power or an atom(the N/A vtec one not supercharged) then come back and same the same thing.

and I wouldn't want to be seen dead driving around in a honda :p lol

Now that is HARSH! do you really think hondas are that bad? they have an excellent reputation in general so why wouldnt you be seen dead in one?
