What are your views on blow-off valves?
"Manufacturers have been using blow-off valves, or bypass valves, for a long time for a specific purpose - to reduce noise, not increase it. It is also meant to improve the smoothness of the turbocharger from deceleration to acceleration."
"The whole range of show-off valves that are running around are a pretty inefficient way of making a noise and people justify it by calling them blow-off valves. If I need to have one on a vehicle for a specific reason - I mean, a good blow-off valve is worth its weight in gold on a racing car working through the gears - the HKS valve gets my vote every time. They're very reliable and they don't rely on a piston bouncing up and down inside a bore made from a different material -something that's just waiting for dust to get in and jam it. The majority of them are just show-off valves that do nothing except wake the neighbours."
"Plumb-back blow-off valves are good where your management system works off metered air - it's crucial for the management to know how much air is running around. For MAP sensed vehicles that don't measure airflow, then you can vent the valve to atmosphere or do what you like."
"Ignoring the management part of the equation for a minute, I don't think plumbing the blow-off valve back to the intake is of major benefit."
