mate your timings definately out by 1 tooth
thats the same as what mine was doing.
it will also explain your loss in power.
i just hope you havnt fucked anything else up with it like that, but that problem will be down to toy tuning
nothing can fuck up the timing apart from the guy who fitted the timing belt.
starlets are tricky to get correct, and sometimes it takes a while.
some mechanics just get fed up and say that will do, it'll be fine, like the guy who originally did mine done.
my car had the exact same symptoms as yours, and then my dad and his mate done the timing and it now runs as sweet as a nut
Hey Tom,
Power wise it's a lower compression engine this is why it produces less power, because of this you can run more boost safely. We could build high comp engines but for safety it's not viable, we don't offer a warranty on race engines and we don't want people blowing them. Timing wise Kevin has probably timed over 1000 Toyotas in his life so seems odd why it's hunting but if you want I'll get him to call you to see if we can rectify, first time we've seen this but as promised we are here if needed.
When it left timing wise it was fine as we wouldn't let a new engine go out like that, all I can think is that it has been altered when mapped but get in touch when you can, sent a reply to your mail
Thanks,
T
also it only idles like that when it's warm i found, when cold it seems ok,
toby i'm not saying you have done wrong, just saying it is possible.
the guy who done my timing belt said almost exactly the same as you have just said, and even when i done the timing myself and got it spot on, it ran like a dream after and stopped hunting, and the guy is still in denial lol
Yeah it is a wierd one we would always ensure timing is spot on, what company did you use for mapping Tom? Whatever the case we are here for you buddy no tissues yet please!

Hi Tom,
Yeah spoke with Kev and he said it was 100% when it went out, like you said happened after it was tuned so I think that is where the problem lies. You know we don't like the Dastek as the stock OEM ECU slowly takes over, Luke made a good suggestion with some better management but I know it's all budget pending! Get the timing checked, won't take long at all and any competent mechanic can show you, can even send a light gun if you need easy to use.
For 1.2 bar I would go with 330's + pending what rail pressure you run with the FPR. I'm glad you still enjoy driving her mate that is the most important part but I would say it needs to be re-mapped, I really dislike the Dastek but I know they are cheap hence so appealing, you know what I'm going to say! I'm going to get you on the track if it's the last thing I do, want to suck you up with our HKS tubby
