ive read on a thread here that the ep82 auto Tps is just like the glanza Tps , not just on/off , would that work with the ep82 manual Ecu ??

A few notes I have

This little black box sits on the rear of the inlet throttle valve and transmits the position of the throttle to the ECU. Naturally if this component is incorrectly adjusted you might experience rough idle, poor throttle response, cutting out issues, etc.

Heres the rundown on the part numbers:

In the mk1 EP82 (12/89-01/92) the autos and manual models used the same ECUs and so part number 89452-14020 suited both but with the release of the mk2 EP82 the auto ECU changed to 16-bit technology. The part numbers differed between auto and manual as a result.

Due to this EP82's between 01/92 and 01/96 used 89452-12060 (manual) and 89452-22090 (auto). Interesting sidenote - the non-turbo model autos still used the same unit as the manuals, for some reason the auto 4EFTE was given it's own version.

The Glanza V's used 89452-16020 as the newly developed manual TPS and retained the earlier 89452-22090 component for automatic models.

Hope that helps mate,

Jay

thats some greta info there jay cheers for that !
so does that mean that the ep82 auto 16-bit tps is gradual like the new glanzas one ??

I had the wideband on my EP82 for a long drive yesterday - noticed that it will hold the AFR's on overrun and then gradually alter them.

I'm assuming this is the effect you are looking for?

well ive got an emanage ultimate going on here , want to use the autotune feature , which i dont think works with the On/off Tps type ive got , so i was wondering which ones would work for me , gradual , like the newer glanzas ?

I've heard of guys using them for that very reason but I'm not up to scratch on the details of it all.

Hi there,

Edit:

I've got a question for the guys here that know some info about the ECU's..
I have a '91 4E-FTE in my Corolla. The wiring loom (made custom) ends in two plugs which fitted in a two-plug manual ECU. That setup FAILED the dutch MOT, had approx. 5% Co² instead of the allowed 0,3% Co².. That wasn't so good lol. Other problem was that the FTE was running way too rich. Then I had a extra wiring loom made that went from two plugs -> three plugs. On that i fitted the auto ECU what came with the frontcut.

My question: What aftermarket ECU will fit on my three plugged loom? On the UKSC forum someone told me that the Glanza three plugged ECU worked, but did not know if the car ran good (not too rich and so on)..
Can someone clarify it. Don't wanna change the TPS/throttlebody..

Trying to understand the above info. Can I just replace my manual TPS with a direct fit Auto one because mines is a MK1?

There is no difference between the mk1 auto and mk1 manual TPS. (This also renders the swap to one useless as it is the same part number).

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the later mk2/mk3/GlanzaV auto TPS (the one that reads in increments) has a different connector on it. Four wires instead of three perhaps. I can compare the connectors tomorrow night for you if it helps. (mk1 manual against mk3 auto)

Ahh fair do's!

I'll do a wee test with the volt meter and see when it's reporting 100%

Jay is correct, the linear voltage TPS has a 4 pin plug. This means it's anything but a drop in swap. The early manual TPS is also significantly different in design and plug to the later manual TPS. E.g 1990 GT - 96+ Glanza doesn't work.

Running on a stock ECU or with an eManage with the TPS swap could be a bit tricky... any standalone ECU shouldn't have any trouble.
