WAs going to ask if that was yby's i remember hims saying it was 200odd bhp in his auto, and that he had a bit of a session with a porsche, thats what tipped me over the edge and started sourcing parts.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the lovely replies :D

Should be very interesting yes...I will be tracking the balls of this car, taking it to every event/meet and trying to get some good QTR mile times too!

I'm not after any particular figure. I just want it to hit full boost ASAP with a good power/torque figure.

BTW, would is max boost recommended with standard headbolts? Will 1.4bar be OK?

Hmm...1.4bar is 20psi.

I have 1.2mm metal HG and low comp Ross pistons. Think I will be OK?

Good luck! there a good few people now just finishing off rebuilds, if the td04l can boost to 1.7bar with good inlet temps ill be very happy!

no..it can't. you'd be expecting at least 15C higher temp, and the turbo will be running out of range in the high rpm's. Great punch in the midrange, dead from 6000 rpm and up...

Things never go well for me!

Standard rad wont fit, so need to buy an aliminium one off Ebay, so I will have a standard rad for sale with fan.

Turbo I bought has a broken fin, just had to buy another one! Managed to source a really low milage one for only £50 off a 2005 WRX.

Downpipe needed to be modified too :(

Here's a picture of block in and manifold on.

Look where the actuator is mate, thats why.

Done some research and even thou these manifolds are meant to clear stock rad, its actually hit and miss! Great!

EDIT - Well, thought I got a turbo...:( Found another, but bit expensive as far as TD04L's go. We'll see.

why dont u go for an external waste gate gee? I am sure u can place that in a position wich wil clear stock rad.......

Too late for that now mate.

Dont know why people bother with an external on the TD04, the gate on the turbo is fine.

Had to buy this

Will get the fan to fit some how or another. Least of my worries, haha!

Managed to source another turbo too, bit more expensive, but I was desperate :(

yeah...i realiseda while back that that particular set up does not always work perfectly as it is intended....there was a guy a while back that had a write up on the internet using this kit,,,,,,,and had to do some modification to the kit for it to fit.....i will try to post the link if i can find it again.....

my opinion is if i buy something that is suppose to fit a certain way.....then it should....end of story (unless the buyer has done other stuff to make this claim irrelevant)

PS - some of them have been fitted with no issues

Hi Gorgan,

Yeah, its a shame really. I have looked in to it and it has been hit and miss with the kit. Some fit mine, so have had the same problem as me and even when the rad has fit the actuator has rubbed through it!

The downpipe hit the gearbox too and I have found out this is also common with the kits! Pete has sorted it all for me, but thats not the point. The whole point of the kit was for me to keep stock rad, now I am using half sized anyway! I would of just got a WEPR mild steel mani if I knew all this was going to be the case.

Lets just hope it is all well from now on.

yeah...i know about the gearbox hittting issue too from the down pipe...this was quite a big bash on austarletclub a long time ago........as u may have realised...lol

from memeory......u need a smaller radiator (swift or honda). ...or really rottate the td04 housing.and the d/pipe needs to be adjusted

i think u went the way of the smaller radiator

glad u got things sorted..........but i know u really wanted to keep the OEM radiator like how i want to...........that's why i'm looking to get my mani done locally if i can...so i can see for myself

enjjoy the ride now......
