Have i wrecked my turbo?

well basically in the last 300 miles i have covered i have been running the turbo without an air filter...

The other day my brother took the car and him and his mate decided to move my boost controller to a different spot....

But whats happening now is the car is over boosting (not holding boots at 1 bar as it should) i checked all vacuums and all seem ok...

The reason why i ask is my turbo gone is because one of my piston rings (i thinks) have gone and the car is smoking out of the breather...

The car has been using alot of oil and i recently put in 2 litres over a course of 300 miles as my engine oil was low.

Could it be due to oil starvation my turbos gone?

Or is it just the case checking for leaks?

As when the turbo does hits boost i can feel the car pull like it used to.

In regards to the engine i will be putting in a forged 5e within the next 3 weeks so not bothered about the engine...but wont be a happy chap if my turbos fooked lol

any commenys on this guys?

lol corey you dont know how relieved i feel to hear that! The turbo is spooling up fine! Just not holding boost at 1 bar...over boosting! At 4.3k rpm hitting 1.8 bar lol

before it started over boosting it wasnt hitting 1 bar until 4.6k rpm...

Im not going to rule anything out so could it also possibly be the case my boost controller could be faulty?

So long as you haven't run low on oil pressure (which would damage the turbo seals) or over boosted the turbo (which could damage turbo seals, blades, bearings, or impellor shaft) then the damage should be restricted to your engine.

Too much boost = too much air and not enough fuel.

These = piston damage.

A pretty shitty way for her to go mate, least you got a replacement lined up.

What was it boosting to?

EDIT - just saw 1.8 bar mentioned. Which turbo?

jay its the td04 hybrid from sasha.

The thing which i dont understand is there is no smoke coming out of the exhaust....

Turbos spooling fine and also when it hits boost i can feel the pull (so no power loss)

so originaly i were thinking either theres a leak in one of the vacuums or my boost controller is faulty.

Edit: ps i cannot rep you jay...says i need to spread more rep around so i owe you one and also are all admins on stirke lol how come you are all in stealth mode (appeared offline)

id be looking at settings/ vaccum going to the boost controller seems the problem with over boosting only started when it was moved

I hope its not the wastegate :(

only bought a tial external wastge gate brand new 3 months ago!

It had unlimited boost when my boost controller wasnt set up properly hence why i think it could be that also it was having problems spooling up before the boost controller was moved...i had more lag (full boosting an extra 400 to 500 rpm then it normally would.

Is the oil consumption/breather smoke a seperate issue from the boost problems?

Not too sure what those TD04's are happy with so its worth checking with Sacha. If it were a CT9 you'd be picking bits of debris out of the exhaust.

Sounds like you have boost control issues - check all the pipework for leaks mate and report back.

Ah I read it wrong thought you ment it was'nt holding/reaching a bar. Check all pipes to narrow it down. Does it smoke on idle at all?

I checked th pipes but i will check again also will checl to see if my boost controller is set to wastgate and not actuator!

The oil consumption is a seperate issue jay but with my car drinking so much oil (due to pison ring failure) i wasnt sure if i could have wrecked the turbo due to oil starvation!

also have you seen them orange alloys richard painted? What colour orange is it? As im geting my car pained by richard next month and want to do some photoshops with that colour!

no smoke whatso ever corey out of the exhaust...on idle if i leave it for 10 mins the rev it some water comes out of the exhaust though!only got smoke coming out of my oil catch can (which has a breather in the actual can!)
