People use a HKS FCD (fuel cut defender) if thats what your refferring to?

But these should not be fitted without correct supporting fuelling mods and should be set up correctly by someone who can check your fuelling.

Its not the most ideal set up for your car though.

EDIT --- sorry for some reason i thought your title said "home made" :p hence my reply!!! im tired :p

your over boosting for a start causing fuel cut you need to sort this issue.

there is a mode the ecu can go in called limp mode, you will find you cant go over 30mph or something like that.

if you do a diagnostics or get a diagnostics done, this will tell you what sensor is playing up

no, wat hes talking about is limp home mode, a safety device in newer cars that basically sense something wrong with the AFR and it limits you to like 2000rpm and hardly any throttle at all to basically limp you "home" lol.

i very much doubt starlets have this feature, i think your just fuel cutting unfortunately

i was told it was home mode by a mechanic lol.so in limp mode it wud not reac 5.k rpm then?its not over boosting i dont think its only running 0.5 bar which is really low. only got the car 2 weeks ago and has benn nothing but problems

i very much doubt it will allow 5k in limp home mode mate,

every car ive seen that does it literally lets maybe 2.5k at the most

i wouldnt look at a sensor first, but at why your over boosting, what mods you got? what boost you at?

dont forget if ya have it set at about 0.8bar in the summer, its nice and cold now, so its going to be trying to boost a bit more,

its got an induction kit mounted behind the bumper exhaust hks actuator bleed valve running 0.6 maybe 0.7 as i have turned it down as i thought it was overboosting. i bought the actuator as i thought it cud be that but still doing it have just brought new spark plugs too

if it exists .... weve never found it lol..

the only thing similar is when the tps, map or knock sensor goes.. but its still a longshot from what ur talkin about...

The stock ECU has a safety feature that stops the engine overboosting and killing your pistons.

If the limit for safe boost is hit the ecu cuts the fuel to the engine and flashes the engine management light in the instrument cluster at you.

In later models (1992 onwards) the engine management lamp can remain lit and my guess is that he is referring this to a 'safe' or 'limp-home' mode. The fact that the light is illuminated should stop the driver from driving excessively hard anyway.

Once the ignition is switched off and on again the lamp is cleared and will function normally. I've experienced a few occassions where the lamp only remains lit for a brief period after experiencing fuelcut.

------------------------------------------------

So basically it sounds from your description like your car is overboosting - The ecu's safety feature is working and stopping your engine from blowing up.

The first thing to do is to fit a boost gauge. This way you can see how the car is boosting and if indeed it is fuelcut that you are dealing with.

From there you can decide on what needs done.

Hope that helps,

Jay

Run a diagnostic check as per this thread fella:

http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=290

It may give a clue to what's happening.

Just for information, some gauges can be inaccurate so it's worth doublechecking with a spare one as a second opinion.

If the boost is indeed that low and not creeping/spiking then the MAP sensor which the ecu gets it's info from could be reading incorrectly.
