Jonny that sounds like an expensive repair to replace the gear etc, I think I'm best off using the box for spares?

Your not havin much luck,lucky only blew 2nd gear.
I was joinin motorway changin in to 3rd gear an then it dissapeard lol i lost 3rd,4th an 5th gear.

It is, i priced a 2nd gear hub for my car when we were rebuilding my gearbox and it was roughly £180 for the hub then syncro is roughly £25 and the gear i dread to think how much it is.

Easily over £200/£250 in just parts.

Deffinately not cheap to repair had mine fully rebuilt cause wasnt havin much luck findin a decent 2nd hand box.

Ouch Fiz that must have been pricey.

Well I'm buying Rumel's gearbox off him, and getting my Quaife LSD fitted to that and may as well replace all the syncros when that is being fitted. :)

Oh and a new bloody release bearing, can't believe a brand new one was sounding like that.

And GTNomez theres no need to leave me bad rep? You asked for the gearbox around a month ago and havent received any pm from you for the past few weeks saying you still want it? Only reason i gave it to idrees was because i dont have the time to take it off....i was going to borrow it to idrees anyway however idrees offered me some money for it & with all the help/time idrees has given me with my project i couldnt say no.

So maybe you should have said you still want it for the past few weeks and would have got my mate to take it off?

Anywho idrees i will upload them pics of the way you remove a gear box lol haha!

The proper way to take a gearbox off...
a) make sure you have a hoody on
b) dont use a torch light, do it in the dark
c) use a tool that will make it very very hard
d) jump on the engine to get better leverage removing the bolt
e) fail getting a pic taken in the act lol haha

Nah, it's all done now. It was dark and cold, and I only had a 3/4" rachet which wasn't up for the job. Went back the next day with a strong bar, and job done.

I've given Rumels gearbox in for a rebuild today. Thought I may as well get the syncros done whilst giving it away to fit the Quaiffe LSD. :D

Fingers crossed! He's charging me £150, does this sound reasonable? This includes the following

Stripping a buggered gearbox to remove the LSD
Stipping the new gearbox
Fitting 5 syncros, LSD and main seals to the new box.
