laughable insurance quote - Flux!!!

All this stuff about Imports being more expensive is bollocks. Unless you drive an uber rare car, most dealers have UK stock and can get the bits in a few days. None of this "It's got to come from Japan" non-sense. Jay is right, it will go round in cycles. Starlets were cheap to buy and cheap to insure, so everyone wanted one. The market has been flooded and Billy Bolt-On can chop in his Halfords special and buy a Starlet. Having the square root of fuck all driving experience, he crashes it. Probably racing too. This happens ad infinitum until the insurance companies notice the trend and start to bump the prices up. The cars become too expensive to run for Mr Bolt-On and he returns to doing what he does best.

Meanwhile, because only the sensible drivers will be left, insurance claims will drop and the premiums will follow suit. This will continue until the Starlet reaches the age of the AE86, whereby it becomes a Jap hatchback icon, incredibly desireable, and rare as pink rocking horse shit. The only downside to this then would be that they will be permanently expensive to buy and insure.

That's my problem, as AE111 aren't the most common cars about by a long shot.

But even so, can still get all the parts for it from Toyota dealers, which some insurers don't seem to realise :(

My newest cheapest quote of £898 with IGN through Lifesure doesn't include any sort of club discount.

I will need to confirm with Sky what discount I did get with the quote from them, because there quote was £921.

If I had the time to sit on the phone for a few days lol! I'm sure I could get it well down, I'm just soo busy. My back log at work is huge and only getting bigger.

Hi Kev, we would have applied the full 20% club member discount... Do you want me to get Daniel to give you a call and see if we can match that price you've had?

I cancelled my policy with Adrian Flux this morning, gives me 8 days to get a cheaper quote before my renewal.

A-Plan are getting back to me today, I think I'm going to have to have a stupidly high excess to reduce it any further.

Oh well have to see what quotes I can get in a week, Sky still looking the better at the moment with like for like cover and at £900.

Kev

edit: now that's more like it! £820 with A-Plan! Now we are getting somewhere lol!

I managed to get my quote down with Lifesure to £778 with a £350 excess, all mods delcared like for like, £500 audio cover, overall a damn good policy.

Paid a reasonable size deposit up front and left with 10 monthly payments of £59!

Not bad in the end as I had very little time to sit on the phone doing quotes.

Have you tried Bell?

Nevermind, didn't read the whole thread.

Try them again, online or via phone (Whatever you didn't do)

I was quite surprised at my quote of circa £450 for my Glanza from Sky Insurance. I thought this would be a really cheap car to insure as its only a 1.3. Only mods are suspension and alloys. I thought the insurance group was only around 8 but according to the rep from Sky Insurance the premium was not calculated taking the insurance group into account :homer:

My £450 quote is a discount as I already have my Subaru Impreza insured through Sky. All mods declared, my 400 bhp Impreza only cost me £650 to insure. Thats only £200 more than the Glanza :homer: Dosnt make sence to me!!

My last car was a Nissan Pulsar GTiR, i was only £350 to insure it. How a Glanza can cost more to insure ill never know!!!

Im 33, work offshore, full NCB, no points or convictions.

I thinks its all the young high risk drivers that buy Starlets that have bumped up the premiums, so the original poster of this thread might struggle to get a quote of circa £600.

yeah i would agree,

alot more young drivers are getting starlets because of there low litre and actually being able to get insured on them even tho its a high price.

things like pulsars and scoobys insurance wouldnt even touch so they have to look elsewhere. unfortunately starlets are suffering for it but hopefully itll get rid of the rif raf :p
