All this stuff about Imports being more expensive is bollocks. Unless you drive an uber rare car, most dealers have UK stock and can get the bits in a few days. None of this "It's got to come from Japan" non-sense. Jay is right, it will go round in cycles. Starlets were cheap to buy and cheap to insure, so everyone wanted one. The market has been flooded and Billy Bolt-On can chop in his Halfords special and buy a Starlet. Having the square root of fuck all driving experience, he crashes it. Probably racing too. This happens ad infinitum until the insurance companies notice the trend and start to bump the prices up. The cars become too expensive to run for Mr Bolt-On and he returns to doing what he does best.
Meanwhile, because only the sensible drivers will be left, insurance claims will drop and the premiums will follow suit. This will continue until the Starlet reaches the age of the AE86, whereby it becomes a Jap hatchback icon, incredibly desireable, and rare as pink rocking horse shit. The only downside to this then would be that they will be permanently expensive to buy and insure.
