laughable insurance quote - Flux!!!

Well it just got a little bit worse!

Just had a quote from Sky Insurance £921.00 (£300 excess) basically the same insurance policy as with Adrian Flux, but modifications covered like for like.

I can't believe I'm being hit this hard, ok I crashed back in May, but it was down to road conditions on a bend and section of road known to the police that has claimed several cars over the years and even a death! However my policy is still increased by this, ok I can accept an increase but not this much.

This is just another turn of the knife, I wish I never bloody claimed on the corolla, I got ripped off big time, now my policy on the glanza is stupidly high!!!

In my opinion I should be paying around £600 if not less, £300 extra for a crash and considering my no claims record! is way too much.

so it's in import, yes right, it's just the same as any other bloody car on road, it has 4 wheels and engine, yes it's turbo'd, it's still only 133 bhp

I'm not paying a stupid amount of money for the policy and if I can't get it down to around £600, I may possibly sell up.

Details given over the phone when doing the policy were basically exactly what is below:

Have you tried A-Plan yet? I've got near enough the exact same details as you and I'm paying £650 FC, mods dec'd, protected no claims etc etc.

lol, i've herad similar mate :)

i'm with bell.co.uk atm, and i'm only paying £686 (20 with 2 years ncb and huge mod list lol)

try them, and add your parents or sum1 much older with good driving history as a named driver to bring it down even further :)

Dave

bolox,

my first year i was 21 with all my mods declared they want £1k with 0 no claims

the second year same again but with 1 yr no claims and a year older 22 they still wanted 1k grrrr

so out of principle i went to another insurance company, although i'm still paying 1k,

Hi Kev,

Sorry you feel a bit disapointed with our quote.

I'd just like to say that we do constantly monitor our rates, as far as we are aware we have beaten your 'best price' making us the cheapest so far. Please feel free to come back to me if you you manage to find a better price and package elsewhere and we will be happy to revist the quote for you.

thanks

maybe only say that you will only be doing 3000 miles per year??

And will it be stored in a garage??

i think white lies wouldn't affect your policy would it?? (apart from making it cheaper):)

LMAO and risk not getting paid out when they request mileage totals in the event of a crash and if the car got broken into on the drive..........I think not. You may as well not pay for any insurance if you have policies like that.

It's ok Ollie, I may be back to Sky Insurance, you are the cheapest so far, it's not that I can't afford to pay it, but it's principle and especially when you see other quotes of younger drivers, less experience, less no claims then you getting cheaper quotes.

I still think I should be paying around £600.

oh,

i only said that because my insurance never asked me for my mileage so they wouldn't know how many miles i have done anyway, and i have a garage but my car isn't always parked in there.

sorry i thought it wouldn't affect the policy!

They haven't, but they might! Dont forget you mileage is recorded on your MOT certifcate each year

you can limit your mileage then inform the insurance company if you are to go over that amount. thats what im doing, car is limited to 5k miles and ill ring up if i am going to go over that amount!

also, mine will be mainly kept in the garage, but if i am to keep the car anywhere else for an extended period of time i need to inform them

how is that accident not your fault?
Your quote sounds about right. I also doubt anywhere in leicester is low crime rate.
Unless where you live looks like this

The accident in my opinion wasn't my fault due to several reasons.

The Bend has a terrible camber on it, no warning signs, which there should be. It also has field entrance on it which was used by a farmer and had a built up layer of mud around the edge of the bend, add to that it was raining and at 11.00pm at night I stood no chance once my wheels touched the mud.

The corner not that I knew before the accident has claimed several cars and even had one death as informed by the officer at the scene, called out to the same place at least a dozen times in his career.

However in the eyes of insurance the claim was made on my policy, so I'm at fault, there was not enough evidence on the road to challenge the farmer due to the rain washing most of the mud away.

That's the way insurance works I'm afraid :(. Even if the wheel fell of your car (Obviously not your fault) and you claimed, it's still a claim against you. The only way it's not is if a 3rd party damages the car.

Kev, how did you get on with A-Plan?

Hi!

Still waiting on a few companies to get back to me today.

I will be insuring the glanza again for sure, depending on what price I get will determine if I keep it next year.

I know it's a completely different car, but paying £350 fully comp, all mods delcared, stereo cover, breakdown cover on a fully modified corolla to nearly a grand on my glanza is a massive difference.

I also had loads of plans next year to increase power and further upgrades to the suspension, doing this would up my premium more. I could be running a UK spec car, turbo'd and heavily modified for far less.

Before writing off my corolla I was planning an engine swap or turbo system and this would of only put another £100 on my policy, now with my plans for the glanza and my premium of already £900+ I'm not going to be able to do much without seriously effecting my policy.

actually according to Daniel at Sky, were all in for a shock with our insurance.

Insurance companies specialising in Jap imports etc are increasing premiums and some aren't even going to offer insurance, apparently there was a lot of companies out there offering cheap insurance due the demand for jap imports, hence a lot of people getting cheaper quotes here.

Over the last few months insurance companies have increased premiums and some have even pulled jap import insurance all together. The reasons for this I have been informed by Daniel and also a few other people at insurance companies is that a lot of jap import cars have been written off, repairs are costing them more money and the time involved getting parts etc.

I would be interested to see people's renewals next time round.

Being a longterm GT owner I've noticed it goes in cycles.

Gt's were cheap to insure at the start, then as per normal with crashable objects the insurance premiums took a hike. This subsided and everything went back to normal. A similar hike happened a year or two later - at one stage I couldn't insure one anywhere but then things seemed to ease and we went back to a low point. At this stage it's actually cheaper for me to insure a GT than a UK-spec GLi..

Could be the start of another rise then. Better batten down the hatches!
