I'll sweep the streets if it means i've got a warm house to come home too.

I have a stack of jobs here that i've called this morning.
Petrol station attendant
Car valeter
Second hand car sales
Ferry un-loader

I'm hardly looking for my dream job.

Its a tough situation mate but if you are getting the same result i.e. not getting the job then you need to change something or you will keep getting that result.

I would recommend actually going to potential employers face to face rather than calling them. It is infinately more effective as they have an opportunity to see exactly who they are dealing with, the telephone is a very impersonal beast and its much easier to say no over the phone.

Also try get a sideline going in something. When I was out of work I used to buy and sell used computer parts and mobile phones and then sell them on. This eventually paid my rent every month which was 600euro back then.

Its difficult to stay motivated when you are getting negatives from people but you have to puch past it.

If you walked into a supermarket and asked for the manager and said "I really want a job here and you wont have any employee as enthusiastic as me" I bet they would give you a start.

Haha I was just replying to someone assuming everyone on the dole was lazy/fat/ugly/foreign/etc.

I'm looking for a job, i dont care if you believe me or not, I will eventually find work and until then the only way of living is "scrounging off you lot"..

Thanks for all your money guys.

You must have recruitment agency where you live!! That what I did as soon as I lost my job I went straight to all off them. I could go pot washing for £5.52 and I would have if I had not been lucky enough to get the job I am now doing..

believe me man.. Ive been there.

To give you a bit of a chin up. There is a guy on the site here who got made redundant from his job and couldnt get work for ages!

We talked about it all the time and I asked him "what would you like to do if you could have any job" and he told me. So I said "well why not put all your efforts into getting that kind of job". He really didnt have the confidence in his abilities that he should have had.

Anyway after lots and lots of talking he stopped thinking about the what if's and the I cant's and the dont have the qualifications etc.

He went and got the job. Now everytime I talk to him he sounds a million miles away from where he was and loves his job and has been promoted and is now running the show after 2 years.

Its all about your frame of mind. I dont even look at the "required qualifications" anymore. If I want a job and think I can do it then I will go for it. I have never ever met the "required qualifications" for any job I have ever had.

You got to be confident and let them know you want the job more then the other people.

PS: Ive done a fair bit of hiring in other jobs so feel free to PM me if you want advice etc.

Agency work is no good for me. I need a full time 40+ hours per week to be able to afford to rent my house, pay bills etc etc. I can't afford to "sign off" to work a week then get told "We have no more work". I NEED a permanent fulltime job- nothing less.

If i sign off the dole, i'll have to start paying council tax, full rate on water/gas/electric. I honestly couldnt afford to not work full time. The temping places wouldnt work for me. If i signed off the dole because i got offered 1 weeks work, as soon as that week is over i'd have no money coming in.

it's ok dude, i have been in your position before.

i was layed off, and tried to find a job that would use my skills i had used in my apprenticeship. unfortunately, there isnt much around in the electronics industry.

i was looking for 4 weeks, lucky i got a nice pay off from my previous employer.

after 4 weeks of looking i decided to bite the bullet and went and worked for iceland foods, i didnt want it and thought it would be shit, but i tell you it was the best job i ever had. so fun and the people i worked with were great.

i did sign on the dole, but lucky for them i found a job before they even payed me any money.

after just 3 months of me working there they wanted me to train up as a supervisor, with a view of becoming an assistant manager within 12 months. unfortunatly for me the company hit financial issues, and as i was last in i was also first out.

lucky for me though they gave me a couple of weeks notice, and i went to work for carpetright, as a warehouseman, i worked my bolox off and was employee of the month for 2 months running, and then the same thing happened to me again. company decided to close the store, and again as i was last in i was first out.

luckily for me the manager of the store felt so bad he got me a job working for allied carpets, problem was it was to far to travel and was costing me £90 per week in petrol in a 1.1 fiesta lol.

so i ended up in my current job.

some people have been very small minded on this site.

yes there is a problem of social spongers, but people shouldnt jump on others without knowing the full story.

unbeleivably there is some genuine people on the dole.

Also, I'd like to highlight this -> Does Immigration hurt our economy

A basic and interesting point made, in that with everyone working (or at least the same Working:NotWorking ratio), its making things better for us all, and making our Economy even stronger.

Its a double edged sword, It can be a good thing, if the policies are correct...

I personally think I'd feel a lot less irritation at the situation if they did something like:

1) You have to work in the Country for 4-5 years before you've EARNT the right to sponge off the system. Other countries do this with British citizens (How hard is it to get a permit to work in certain foreign countries?). So its not like we'd be setting a new standard...

2) None of this, "Here is £10k+, for free, it'll get you set up with a house/car and so on" When many British people can't get houses (Private/Council or otherwise).

Just my 2p! Surely this can't offend anyone :p

*edit* I liked the joke actually lol *edit*

im sure governments wouldn't just hand over 10k£ out of hard earned tax payer money, here ya go sir you have landend in "uk" here 10k£ im sure they will have qualify for certain criteria and show they are worth the 10k£,same goes for house every one have to earn points in order to get council house same goes for Brits.
