Mani Wrapping

I want to wrap my new mani, I'm not for using exhaust wrap clips, can I just use any old wire?

I know it would have to be very heavy wire so it doesn't break with the heat.

if you can manage it just us 1 piece of heat wrap and start at the middle on one of the middle runners, then just tie a knot at the end and secure that with some wire..

It's not stainless, and I drive the car 1 day of every month, should last 10 years at that rate lol!

I'll get bored of the Turbo before the mani cracks.

I dont believe that wrapping the mani will shorten its lifespan enough for it to crack/break before the car is scrapped! Thats assuming its a good manifold. Yes wrapping speeds up the rate at which the metal erodes, but not so much it will fuck it within even 7 or 8 years.

Its easiest to soak the wrap in water first before applying it, and make sure you dont wrap it too tight, leave some room for expansion :)

From all the evidence I've seen posted 6-12 months after wrapping it's a seriously bad idea for a thinwall manifold. By that I mean anything other than sch40 or steam pipe at ~4mm mild steel. Plenty of examples of dramatic cracking due to overheating (including the well wrapped example Gryzor posted above)

I wouldn't touch the stuff. Ugly, difficult to use, problematic in the long term.

Install your manifold and fabricate some proper heatsheilds from some stainless plate.
