Misfire on boost ..

Just done a head gasket for a mate in his glanza .. Before he gave it to me it had overheated and smokey . Now I have it all done . Head skimmed etc .. It's smokey when I come off boost . So that's the oil desk in the turbo gone .. But when I first put it back together it had a misfire when building boost . So I move the distributor towards the bulkhead , twisted it clockwise . Not sure if that's retarding or advancing the timing but it ironed it out .. No my question is what is the recommended igniyion timing point ? ... Anybody ever have this problem before ? .. It never miss fired until I changed the gasket , he supplied me with a 1.9 mm Athena gasket which I think is very thick . Considering standard is 1.2..would the thickness of the gasket induce this misfire ? ... Also it's driving but feels like its fuelling wrong n slightly hesitating . And not as fast as before . Should I get out a timing gun n reset the timing .. Any suggestions appreciated ..

Have you double checked that the cams are aligned correctly? i.e. the marks on the cam gears line up at TDC.

-10 degrees BTDC i think the timing is... also when you adjust the timing put it into diagnostic mode.... ignition off, bridge diagnostic port pins TE1 and E1 with a paperclip...ignition on the the EML should be on or flashing then set the timing hold the revs at a steady 700.

I think thats the correct procedure, well its how i done mine lol

Camshaft timing is perfect texx

I drove in 300 Kms on it last night n it hasn't missed a beat .... And strangely hasn't misfired .. So looks to be all good

She is a tad smokey when you boost n let off , releasing the pressure on the turbo so oil seals r gone ...

Did you put the service bolt in when removing the cams? My car had the exact same symptoms and it was because the exhaust cam has two sets of teeth on it and is sprung loaded and it moved a tooth out of place and caused it to run like yours.. Might be worth checking or i could be wrong
