My dyno graph??

I have seen stock engines with flat spots in them before, but it could be an exhaust problem.
2" might be a bit tight, if it is it will release more top end power for you, looks like you are lacking a bit in that department lol.
It could also be the length of your exhaust that is causing a problem. These engines usually run with a short exhaust, on the MR2 yes?
I know with minis they used to put a side exit exhaust on and dyno them, cutting an inch of the exhuast each time. When the power went down they welded an inch back on.
If Fensport tuned it, dont waste time listening to amatures like us but. Ask them of their thoughts, if they tuned it they should be available for after sales advice.
That is some power figure by the way, car must be awesome mate!!

looks like wheelspin or clutch slip to me.... they do make their appearance in the most torquey area (your midrange). as a result, you see the dip in power, and generally these power figures are off in reality, dyno operators dont accept them.

an easy way to see if your clutch is slipping, is if revs keep climbing while the speed remains constant or slows down, then when the slip stops it catches up again.

theres a vid of the car aga and im pretty sure u see no wheelspins etc,

and the clutch is fairly new i think he is clued up enough to realise if the clutch is slipping?

i wouldnt worry to much neway just get your exhasut and see how it fairs up

@WeeJohn..... thanks alot mate... she does go some alright..... i see what your saying... i think my best bet would be to get this exhaust issue sorted and see what happens then..... when driving it the car feels like it has no flat spot what so ever... it just gets worse and worse lol....

@Aga... i think you might be onto something. The guy mentioned to me that he couldnt get traction on the dyno, had to warm the tires up first as it kept spinning.... i bet that was the case a bit of wheels spin as i when driving it especially in 3rd gear the car like to start spinning up about 4K RPM.......
As for the clutch, nah it aint spinning at all, never has once since ive got it.. i always put it in 5th gear and floor it at low RPM through the rev range and holds really well.....

and yeah i know tell me about it, he could of caused some serious damage with no bloody fan..... im almost certain there wasnt one.....

lol, did'nt no u got it done on that trailer one at santa pod, could of f**ked ur engine on that he had a tiny house fan on the front of the cars lol, want to get the exhaust on and get it all set up by a proper tuner on a proper dyno,

id say a combination of no fan for the dyno(what was he thinking??)imo its lucky he didnt do damage because your car was warmed up fully and had no cold air forced in as it should be...the 3sgte injectors max out between ~300bhp and 320,maybe be worth getting a set of larger cc injectors, and if i was you id make that exhaust a 3'' from the cat back, you shouldnt suffer from boost creep if set up right, that was my setup on the 3sgte and i had no creep(but its worth mentioning my injectors didnt max out at 320bhp)

Tell me about it... :homer:

yeah heard they max out at 308HP ATW....? so think your right there.... you think it might need Re-mapping once ive got the new exhaust system on there?

just bloody money, im lacking some :S

as for the injectors go for maybe what a set of 800cc....?

injectors 800cc sound good at least if your putting more bhp into it in future they will be large enough to cope, tbh id bring it for a remap after fitting a bigger exhaust,it will free up power a fair bit more for you,i would bring it to a different dyno first though because i wouldnt trust that portable one at pod---> a former member on here (''speedy'' with the 300+ gt had his ek9 on that rollers and made 209 bhp with very very basic mods)

as for the cash shortage.....you and me both man:homer:

Hi all
289 hp is not at all bad for a 3SGTE running on a 2" exhaust (i think that is what I read in one of the posts)

The car is almost out of injector duty at this level, the trough in the graph is a very typical trough we see in all rev 3 3SGTE engines on CT type turbos.

To progress would suggest doing exhaust, at least 3" all the way from the turbo & some bigger injectors, anything 800cc upwards.

Hope this helps,
Regards
Tony

Looks like tony cleared that up.
But yeah very impressive car, engine sits about 8cm from the ground though LOL! Well done mate.

Ahh i see an old thread being dragged up.....

hmm the injectors is definitely something to concider......... well before the remap u will be looking into getting some 800cc's on there......

@michael.... cheers mate, yeah it was terrible on the the 14's on but with the 16's it sits surprisingly high givin enough clearance through the bumps and dips etc....

would you reccoment fensport for my map then? what did you have done there and how pricey was it mate?

when it was mapped back then mate i wasnt actually there as si the bloke who built me the motor took it down and had it mapped so i cant comment too much about that although my map seemed pretty good... smooth throughout the rev range... even though the graph showed up that slat spot it still drove perfectly and not sure what that flat spot was due too, could of been the stranggled exhaust.....

As for prices have a look on there site... some what around £200 i think....

Ive used fensort many a times and they supplied alot of parts for my conversion, were very helpful throughout... i have no complaints....

so recommended.....

If your running a CT26 then I wouldnt say the graph looks exactly unusual.
If your running a CT20 then I'd say it doesnt look right??

My first guess would be to say the wheels were slipping on the rollers at that particular RPM.

310ft/lb of torque with not alot of weight sat on top is gunna lead to alot of difficulties in getting traction.

If the car doesnt feel like its surging or hesitating under hard load and the AFR isnt going too lean, then I wouldnt worry too much, just keep an eye on it.

as said man this is a really old post....

Im running the stock CT20.....

and at first it was slipping on the dyno then he warmed up the tires for a few minutes then planted it... the car wouldnt of started spinning for 1000REVS then gained grip all of a sudden.... the only way to sometimes regain grip is to go off and on the throttle.....

ive got a new 3inch side exit exhaust now anyway and going to get it mapped to 1.1BAR...... I think the car is running lean to be honest.... cant get enough fuel to compemsate the amount of air.. need the injectors uprgrading to be honest especially after what fensport have just enlightened me with ""The car is almost out of injector duty at this level"" .....
