thanks for the pic mate, here how mine is though, where it hits the exhaust side doesnt quite look like that....

If your rings or pistons were damaged it'd be on one cylinder (most likely), you'd still have three producing enough gasses to provide boost. (Then it'd probably proceed to destruct even more pretty quickly - so like I said you'd hear it!)

This is a damaged piston/ringlands http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARIJAIBZkio

look at the wastegate flap is it fully closed

It's the rod on the left coming out the back of the actuator.

If you've already got the downpipe off then just look at the wastegate penny, this shouldn't move and should be firmly closed.

wat i meant was,

on my td04 the actuator arm was tight and wudnt move by hand, but the wastegate "penny" that actually shuts was about 2mm open so obviously that was resulting in loss off boost.

now its probably not the case but its worth a try just to see if its somehow loosened ??

look at it so your looking into the turbo from the exhaust side and itll be the small round thing that looks like a penny that should be covering a hole

hmmm, so what part of it is supposed to be closed? looks all closed to me if that is what im supposed tp be looking at lol....

yeh that should be closed tight. Try opening it and see how strong the actuator spring feels should be quite stiff.

right, ive just checked and everything seems nice and tight.. i cant pull that black thing out at all or either the two little pennies that are connected. and the rod seems nice and stiff like your saying.....

and the turbo spins freely i think you said. This puts you back to a boost leak or not producing enough exhaust gas to spool the turbo. I really think you should double check all your boost line and intercooler piping. Maybe even pressure test your inter cooler. COuld be cracked manifold but you should hear that. Than your looking at the dreaded compression test.

start it like that see if the waste gate stays closed and the turbo spins up

have you checked the DV isnt stuck open

this is really strange.... yeah the turbo spins freely and there is no play what so ever......

right thanks for your help timmy and GTti, at least im eliminating a few possibilities.....

when its a bit lighter i will put my downpipe back on and double check all the pipes again.. take it up the road again and see what happens..... then get a compression test done as you say.... does it cost alot of £££ to get one done, never needed to get one in the past....?

start it with the down pipe off yeah...? i havent actually checked that although if the DV was stuck open would the air that i blew down the pipe escape from this?
