The zzr600 won't be left far behind any 600, its just more controllable. Plus, insurance as a first bike would be roughly 300-500 FC, whereas you're looking at roughly 1k+ for the gixxer or the r6.
As said above, best test riding them first, you might not even like the riding position of the supersports, can be a bit harsh on the wrists. :)

Just had a quick look on PistonHeads and they certainly go really cheap! I like the classic look of them aswell.

alrite mate i am a biker and have had all of the 3 bikes mentioned, gsxr is a good beginners bike it forgiving and reliable and still brings the wow to your face, kawasaki ninja is like riding an animal if u make a wrong move it will bite......hard and a yamaha r6 is probably the best all round its is the most technical advanced an reliable and lets be honest yamaha are winning all races, so if its ur first go gsxr and if u want it to be ur last go ninja but if u want someting to keep and put a smile on ur face evrytime u see it ride it and hear it go r6, pm if u want advice: harry fully qualified motorcycle mechanic and have been working in the british super bike industry for 3 years with yamaha and kawasaki,

I don't know a great deal about bikes, but a good mate of mine bought his K1 GSX-R 600 brand new nearly 10 years ago and he still rides to work on it everyday. The thing is bullet proof, he doesn't look after it and it gets extreme abuse. His wife washed the alarm fob once (he left it in his jeans pocket) and he didn't like the idea of spending £90 on a replacement. So the thing was left out in his back garden for about 18 months, until I went down one Sunday afternoon and ripped out the alarm and immobiliser for him. We fired a new battery on it and it started up first time without missing a beat, put it in for an MOT and it failed on a front indicator bulb out.

In the last 10 years apart from the usual wear and tear items, the only thing that let him down was when the rear wheel bearing fell apart and the back wheel locked up at 110mph, but to be fair he should have had the bearings changed long before that happened. Still to this day, the engine and box is sweet as a nut and it'll still pull 110mph in second gear and top out at 170mph (only on a clear day going up a disused runway of course).

I keep trying to talk him into buying a new CBR1000RR (I'm nearly there), mainly because I want to build a Gixxer kart with the 600. :D

They are stunning bikes mate, but ye i thought id sensible and go for a 600 rather than a 1000 for a few reasons. One being insurance and other would be getting into bad habbits on the 1000cc.

i want a gsxr 600 but was advised to then go for the 750 as these r supposed to be great

i will go 4 a 600 wen i get my lisence aswell, work with loads of bikers and they love the gsxr bikes:rockon:

Certainly an option lads, the bikes will be hardly used unless its good weather anyway but most of my mates have 600's so dont want to be left too far behind. One have a GSX-R 600 and other had an R6 so its hard to ask what they prefer when they prefer there own.

Buy a Gsxr or r6 cause if you buy a zx you will leave your friends behind all the time..:p

All the 600 nowdays are about equal when it comes to top speed and cornering. Some more linear to the driver some more aggresive.
I have the 636 for three years and dont have any problems.
The only prob is that you can hear the timing chain..even if you replace it ..in a few months you will hear it again..but no prob.
Also the 636 are very resticted from factory and with minnor mods you can unlock their power easily enough.
I use to rip off all the cbrs,r6 around..no try with the gsxr tho..
