Opinions on Celica GT4 WRC?

not bad gt4's nice planted feel to the road a good amount of torque. Tuning potential depends on money alot. Replaceing the charge cooler is a bit expensive. You kind of run out of cheap stuff to do at about 330bhp i hear. I didn't think insurance was too bad considering, would absolutley get trashed by most scoobs and evo's but they are even more money to run. 6-7 secs 0 to 60 for a scoob i don't think so there must be something going wrong down under.

Got to add i think that a close to standard looking Scooby sti is a nice motor and they ARE quick cars.

I thought of getting a celica and was VERY close to going to Scotland to pick one up but it fell through, i love the look of them etc but everybody seems to say they are very heavy and cost a bomb to keep.

That can't be that quick if they can't beat a mitsi colt into a merging lane lol lmao we have alot of imported sti's over here in nz and on the dyno make pretty low figures and aren't that quick I have been in 5 of them not that powerful imho and after 5000 rpm the boost drops off

there are no facts above. An sti been beaten by a colt... you are talking shite. Now keep this on topic with real experience and FACTS

"it's really funny how a n/a altezza which is rwd can beat those 4wd subarus" <---- this is a fact is it?? you are spamming rubbish now stop

Yes it is fact have seen it happen when I was at the drags with my mate and the sti couldn't beat the colt according to the autospeed article I posted up

the article also says this

Keep the throttle floored past 4000 rpm, however, and - bang! - the STi transforms into a head-kicker. It slams your head back with the subtlety of an uppercut to the chin.

but I dont go by articles ... I go by experience. Also what mods had the colt got because it WAS NOT standard or the guy driving the subaru is a crap driver.

And as for the Altezza.. at the drags... what mods were they running...good god. There are swift GTIs that can beat a r34 GTR up the track with enough mods... it doesnt make the skyline crap. But then again you have been in 5 of every car and know everything so whats the point.

well you can all see for yourself as the GT4 i always refer to will be at Japfest with us :) but people comparing tuned starlet to a stock gt4 are being completley unfair. Tuning potential the GT4 wins hands down. As would any big litre turbo 4wd car!

Great cars i've had 2 and much more unique than subaru and evo's. All capable cars but subaru's are geared too short, once you get a GT4 into 3rd it's all over for stock V's stock Generally. Buy one thats had the major work done, fig 8's and associated suspension, shocks, clutch cambelt etc £2000 to sort if all that goes wrong. Realisticaly you need to spend £5.5K to get a decent GT4 thats had all the work needed around 60K miles. £4K is toooo cheap that one has no mention of Fig 8's or suspension A good £1500 to sort that out.

Save abit more and get a good un in white ;)

A friend of mine used to own an old sti type ra. it was pretty standard but it was so fast! was an absolute beast! used to scare pedestrians all the flames that shot out the back. but it would only do around 12mpg.

The older pop up light gt4's weren't that fast they were really heavy they were good rally cars back in the day heard the rally edition with anti lag was fast

Deano, wake up and realise that a starlet is a starlet, a small engined lightweight hatch that is pretty quick for what it is.

My EX 210bhp starlet used to wipe the floor with my mates stock Subaru WRC (Not off the line though) but i no fullly well that if he did a few choice mods to it then he wouldnt be far off. Stock on stock and you can kiss good bye to that impreza. They have better traction a bit of a shitty mid range but then start rolling again the faster they get. A Stock starlet is quick to 70/80 ish but thats about it.

I looked at getting a Celica GT4 but the suspension and fixing costs put me off, in the end i settled on a skyline with 300bhp, 6 months later i have a Glanza sitting on my drive :)

i had a starlet gt and sold it because of the constant wheel spin from it in the wet especially.. and it was completely standard except for an induction kit.. i sold that and got a st205 import, as said the power delivery is sooooo smooth, when you nail it in first you get pinned back by all 255horses and then in 2nd it does the same and all the way up to 100mph its just like one big movement it does it with ease... i am leaving mine standard power wise as when i get bored with it am gonna get a r32 gtr... heres some piccy tho
