PCV Valve / Rocker Cover Breather

Dane, have you got a picture of where the PCV valve pipes are going?

Seem to be a few ways!

this is how i have my catch tank setup:

the catchtank goes back into the air intake so that as the turbo sucks it draws the vapours out the rocker cover :)

after reading the thread ive got just a quick question. when ppl say gutting the pcv valve, how exactly have they done it?

Split the PCV and take the spring and ball/flap out.
Glue the PCV together and away you go.
Just remember to block the inlet manifold nipple.

Venting to atmosphere mate at the back facing down behind the gearbox. I will invest in a catch can to monitor levels but i am getting a custom one made with big beathers.

That catch can set-up has changed now! :p

I got a catch can off Dan, and I'm going to set it up the exact same way as WeeJohn's, using 2 PCV valves, like so:

Am I fine to just put scourer pads in the can? Do they need to be fixed/held inside the can, or can they be free to move? Don't want them breaking up and lose bits flying about!

Hmm..

I don't have a F'ing clue which is the best way to set a catch can up, you would think it would be simple, but there seems to be lots of different opinions on how it should be done.

Octane dilution can't be a good thing :s

I know, im too scared to fit mine when it comes now :homer:

If there are small enough bits then there is a very small posibility that a bit could get sucked into the engine, I wouldn't be wanting that risk.

Yeah, seen a lot of people do it on the internet. I think I will secure some mesh over the top of it as well to stop it moving about. Some people also say put a pair of tights in there! lol

Could put some gauze over the inlet/outlet to the catch can actually, should catch any small bits if they did ever break apart.

Hi all

I'm new to the forum and thought i'd give replying a go :)

Another way of running a catch can with a vacum to expel crankcase gases would be by connecting the outlet of the catch can to the exaust system using a one way valve.

This would give the same benifit of having a sealed system connected to the inlet mani but without the oil contamination reducing the octane rating of the fuel.

As the exhuast gases flow through the exhaust it would pull the vapours out of the catch can and with the valve in place the exhaust gases would not pressurise the crankcase. One point to note tho would be to make the connection after the lambda sensor ;)

Not sure if anyone would be prepared to tap into their exahust systems but thought people might like to know an alternative :)

Just got my new PCV valve off a V6 24v Cosworth engine. Fitted it to the can, which when on boost, should prevent the can from becoming pressurised. The inlet will be connected to the rocker cover, via the PCV valve on the rocker cover its self, this should prevent any rubbish from the can being sucked back in.

Someone (forget who) said they got idling problems when they set theirs up as above. Mine is absolutely fine, so you probably have a small air leak somewhere!

No, its still servings its purpose as a 1 way valve. You'd only want to gut it if you were running a breather on it I think mate!
