Sparky, the Tazz seems to be the SA version of the Toyota Corsa (which is pretty much a Hatchback Tercel) - and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe his car comes with the fabled 3ETE engine

You serious.... a Toyota Corsa?? :S

I think if you were to 'hybrid' a 3ete bottom end to the 4EFTE head you would effectively have a 5EFTE.....

Which make me think... What are the specs on the 3ETE, what size bore, stroke etc is it?

I would have thought that engine has reasonable tuning potential not to warrant changing for a 4EFTE. After all, no replacement for displacemant, i reckon a 1.5 12v would be quite nice with say a garrett T25 turbo...

has the best tourque figure out of the lot ;)

But 5efte is not listed for obvious reasons and im sure that would produce more torque...maybe you got mistaken with 5efhe??

A 5EFTE will make more torque then a 3ETE but certainly not that low in the rev range! 3.2k rpm damn!

I wouldnt think about fitting a 4EFTE mate, i would tune your 3ETE.

Seems the older 2 and 3E use 1mm smaller pistons....

It does make me wonder if getting oversized 3E pistons would work in a 5E conversion, and i wonder how strong the rods are? After all we know the 5E and 3E crank are the same.....

5efte ??????

Sorry i fixed it "edit" thats y ide like to try a 16v head on the 3E block ..Cuold one use a G type head on a 3E or 4E block " 3EGTE or 4EGTE " sounds right ........could be nice .....like you said " there is not replacement for displasment - but one could mackit breeth better .....:)

The Tazz is very popular in South-Africa. It can handle heavy offroading and turbos to be added with ease.
The previous models were still called Corola's as I remember.
Anyways, nice Tazz there.

Toyota tazz was the most popular car in South africa, it is basicly an oldshool toyota corolla hatch with 2e engine. They stopped production few years ago. most reliable car ever... made to drive Miles and miles in africa...
the other most produced car beeing the golf mk1 named "golf city". not sure if they are still in production, but I saw some golf MK1 that were less than 3 years old when I was there.

search online, you will find loads of south african Toyota Tazz. (SA most produced car)
