haha fair enough. You wouldn't even have to take that long over it, just get some hammerite straight to rust paint lol. If it sticks to rust, it wil stick to dirt haha.

Right, i have got all the valve seats ground in, now i have new toyota valve stem oil seals in, so does anyone know if there is a certain amount these are to be pressed in? Can you press them in too much or do they click when they are in place?

You just need to make sure they are 'home' - a light tap using a socket to hit them evenly. Brown ones go on the inlet, the over colour goes to the exhaust. Obiwan Weejohno-bee taught me well on Friday past...

LOL at Jay.
Jimmer a bit of emery on the remains of the gasket will bo, as you say, nice and easy, you dont want any big scratches or nicks.
With all the overheating problems there have been, I wish I had of left mine in somewhere to get any corrosion in the water ways removed.
It builds up over time and reduces the passage of heat to the coolant.
No idea where to get it done or how much this costs mate.

cheers guys, i'll have a bash at them tonight, taking plenty of time over them lol. I haven't a clue where to get the head cleaned either, was thinkin pipe cleaners to get the worst of the crap off then usin some sort of high pressure air supply to blow out the rest of it.Or would somewhere use a chemical to fully clean it?
Would it make the car overheat over time?
Oh yeah weejohn, i have this rent for ye, but i'm sure i'll catch up with you over the weekend at some stage?

Just leave your passport somewhere Jimmer and that will do until then lol.
It was chemical cleaning I was thinking about mate. It is a service that is available but by who I dont know.
Looking at mine now and in the past, some cars on the site and the white GT Jay had the problems with, when they get old overheating is a problem, especially once you screw the power up.
Its one less thing to worry about.

well i just used a diff option, by submerdging the head in petrol then using a tothbrush an pipe cleaners to clean the oil an water ways. Seems to have worked a treat!! just put in the valve stem oil seals, now i'm putting in the valves. Bloody hateful an fiddly job gettin the coolates in place to set the valves, but still is better doing yourself rather than payin somebody £1,000,00 an hour to do it for you lol.

interesting idea, can't see any problem with that really. I have just got all the valves in, and started out being a nightmare, collates (if thats how you spell them) are so fiddly and couldn't get them to sit on the valve at all. Then was told a little bit of grease on the contact bit of the collate and on the screwdriver so it will stick to it till you put it on the valve, then will stick to that. Found it very easy after that. NEXT!!!! lol

That sounds good for cleaning the waterways, what octane of feul did you use LOL.
Even with the grease the collates are fiddly sometimes, if you have not got the tool on the spring centered.
No pain no gain Jimmer and all that shite, just keep thinking of the boost again mate!

was that a joke weejohn? lol the boost will be getting dropped though. :(
have to admit, as long as it takes to rebuild, i couldn't recommend more, cause you really get to understand how it all works, seeing how things are put in, then workin out why they are like that etc is good for the knowledge part of things.
Oh yeah, i only used 95 octane fuel, i should really be put down for that. But havin said that, its bad enough payin for fuel to get somewhere, let alone to clean something!!!! lol

Chris (mi16chris) is gonna be the man with the knowledge again to help with the build which will be next sat, ( 10/11/07) so wanna have everything organised by then to get it built an runnin in 1 day. But i know we will come across problems as we go lol. Any advice or help is welcome and appreciated as always, cheers again!!
