Side exit exhaust

your very wrong there... If your car is set up to run a particular set up and you dramatically change the exhaust then it is very possible to creep due to this... i.e exactly what happened to my car..... Was absolutely fine for 8 months holding around 1bar boost then the split second i change to the front exit started creeping to 1.25BAR....... which was bigger and much shorter with no backbox. It freed up the system causing the exhaust gasses to increase pace and spool that turbo more then it should and also has reduced lag by plenty.. turbo spools now 500RPM quicker...

Now starts spooling at 2100RPM and hits 1bar by 2800RPM...

yeh its a wastegate issue, you even said it yourself in a later post. your boost may increase or decrease if you change your exhaust, yes. but if it creeps (creep meaning the boost keeps rasing uncontrollably with rpm) as well its a wastegate problem, ie too small.
so yeh you could run 4" exhaust on your ct9. (even tho that would be kinda retarded) with the correct wastegate setup it wont creep.

i think you got me wrong mate.....

Obviously it all boils down to the wast gate not allowing it to get rid of the excesses pressure BUT it was the exhaust initially that caused the creeping. The air isn't being controlled and doing what it wants.... therefore need a big wastgate(porting/external) or if you have management that controls what you need here/air/fuel ratio etc...... then you wouldn't need to touch the wastgate.....

as promised guys i went to get a quote for the side exit exhaust. i'm gonna be using my current backbox coz it fits.it's a custom made stainless steel 4" slash cut job.the pipe is going to be stainless steel 2.5".the exhaust is going to be fitted on the passenger side to avoid getting exhaust fumes when the window is down and the sound would be more bearable.also when fitted on the passenger side the exhaust can be fitted a bit more higher above the ground for more clearance. the qoute is of 167 euros for the piping, brackets, flanges and fitting. should the exhaust become too loud for my liking (which will not) there is an optional bung that i can attach to reduce the sound.

btw it's booked for friday. can't wait!:)

Is it legal to have it on the passenger side? If it pops or flames going past a pedestrian surely you could get into some deep shit?

it doesn't matter which side it's on as if it has to pop or flame at a pedestrian it will do it on both sides. as for the police i'll stick to the happy go lucky theme!

Yeah dude but if its on the passenger side its gonna be on the same side as the pavement so more chance of pissing off pedestrians. If its on the drivers side it'll be pointing away from em, just wasn't sure of the legality of having your exhaust pointing at the peds.

yeah u have a point here mate. does any one who has a side exit exhaust on the drivers side suffers from the exhaust fumes entering in the car when the window is down?

I'm sure it is illegal onpassenger side, and at the drivers side it has to be facing towards the floor, maybe some plod can confirm this for us??

yeh stuart, ive been told the same, illegal on passenger side, and aiming more down than level so fumes as said dont go in the window.

and i thought you got me wrong. yet we are saying the same thing..
altho i dont see how management(i take it you mean aftermarket ecu etc..) would affect it at all

hi guys!! front side exhausts rules - FACT!! i've just got mine done up this morning and the sound is absolutely nice.it's not loud at idle almost the same as when it was on the back but just a touch on the gas and a deep growl is let along with that turbo whistling. when on boost it's loud enough to turn heads with that drag car like sound. i just love it. i drove all my way back home with the window half down in fact. regarding looks it's just raw. gonna post some photos when the weather is ok. i'll take some videos if possible too.

btw i've fitted on the passenger side to avoid fumes getting in the car especially when on choke coz it's running slightly rich.
