so what are the best tires to use, i hear r888's for grip on the road but yoko's for lasting the longest, would this be correct? In the wet i know r888's are one of the best.

r888's are the worst in the wet mate.

they are a semi slick, and only just about road legal

No need for swearing little boy! I was askin a question, not makin a statement!

I'm not little, I'm 6 foot 4.

Your questions are a lot like statements - Ahem, I quote "In the wet i know r888's are one of the best."

In all honesty a lot of people use 888 in the wet, they are not bad compared to other semi's. There certainly not the best as if you wanted the best in the wet you would get a specific wet weather tire but not bad compared to others. Look at the tread pattern, they have more grooves than most semi slicks out there and disperse water well. If they are not working well in the wet you are either running incorrect tire pressures or the wrong tire size. If you run a 7inch rim with 195/50 888 then they will be poor in the wet as the tire won't have a 100% contact patch, time to stretch ;)

If you want a comparison try the 888 against the Yok a048r semi, then you will realise the 888 is pretty good. A lot of companies here in the UK with demo cars run 888 when it's damp as they surpass any other semi. Obviously you can't have the best of both worlds and the yok grip in the dry is far superior but overall they are pretty good. As mentioned they will never be the best in the wet as the best would be dedicated wet weather tire but overall not bad.

For the record I usually run 165/50/15 Toyo 888 all year round, stretched onto a 7inch rim :)

toby beat me too it,

maybe thats what he meant, the r888 is suppose to be very decent for a semi slick in the wet, its still not gonna be perfect but for its competition it pisses over the rest of the choices.

i believe talking to my toyo dealer the other day they are releasing a new semi slick designed specifically for the wet, should be intresting

Yeah Proxeys are pretty good and well priced as well. A539 Yok are similar as to the Proxey but a tad more expensive. If your on a budget and want the best of both then something like the Proxey will be fine, if you want the best from her then stick with 888 but obviously cost more.

Most Starlets handle like shit as they have saggy old rubber bushes that have done ridiculous mileage! Most will add braces, lower arm bars, adjustable rods but it's the bushes that hold it all together so do these before the nice looking parts!

Granted the rear axle setup isn't the best but I guarantee it with balls of steel and clever insight you can get your Starlet up with the best of them rest assured. Being a FWD go kart we will always have more confidence than the RWD and 4WD boys so you can do a lot of upsets. Roll cages make a huge difference as the Starlet floor plan is really thin, it's a shopping trolley not a racer! Even a simple 6 point bolt in will transform the car over night just watch those bushes!!!!!!!

yeah the rear beam isnt that bad a design, i beleive fiesta's up until 2002 all had the same (not exactly but similar) design of just having a rear solid rear beam and they were always regarded as a very good handling car out of the box ;)

so although it's obviously not the best but it's not as bad as people make out

Agreed 100%, just a myth. Granted stock ones won't set any records but with some careful planning you will be laughing. Anyone who has been in either of ours will testify this

I once went for a ride in a Mk1 MR2 that had had all its suspension including bushes, shocks springs replaced with genuine Toyota parts and compared that to others that had coilovers, lowered polybushes etc. The oem equiped one was by far the best handling and most comfatable car. You would be really suprised what a difference new stock suspension would give you compared to uprated stuff.
