there is no denying that tyres, road conditions and utlimately the driver play a big part in it but its just theoretically speaking......

@spuddy......what power you running to get those 0-60 times?

Well the standard one will have just the low boost in 1st and 2nd, so that would be slower for sure!

only a glanza that has boost restriction.

Standard GT would have 6.9 sec I think the glanza around 8 sec as it's heavier.

there isnt any difference, the glanza has the CT9b, which is made to accomodate the very very slight weight difference

In my opinion going over 200 bhp on these cars [or any FWD] is not worth it!

disagree with that.

i do agree that a well set up 250 bhp starlet would keep with 330 up to 60.

a 300 plus bhp starlet is at home from 60-140, and in my opinion, would need something special to stay with it.

The main thing is the pull off.. Most powerful cars out there cant express their power till after that anyway.... 300BHP starlet are quick enough for what they are but have a poor power band making them not actually as quick as people think. Yeah they do beat alot of cars granted, but the likes of say a 350-360BHP Evo would cause it alot of problems.. And thats not hard to achieve...

That is very true, an Evo with breathing mods and a map will be difficult to keep with, especially on a track. But the Evo is in a totally different league to the Starlet so you couldnt compare the 2. Obviously its easier to achieve big power from an Evo being a 2.0 turbo charged engine thats almost 300hp already. I wouldnt say an Evo would cause a Starlet problems but a Starlet would cause an Evo problems as its the bigger boys we like to show up. :)

Just my opinion.

I love it when people disagree -)

Do you know any 300 bhp standard car from the factory - FWD?

I personally don't and I think that's for a reason. In fact it has been scientifically proven that FWD is better than RWD below 200 bhp, but RWD is better than FWD after 200 bhp mark - the tests were made by BMW engineers!

I do agree with you that after 60 mph more BHP would help a lot, but unless the car is build for the track only - what's the point if we have 70mph limit in the UK? And if you build the car over 300 bhp for the track only it would be cheaper and faster and safer to buy and EVO - that's my personal opinion of course!

Also, I'm sure that a standard GT would be faster than a standard Glanza - can someone confirm this?

Ford Focus RS.

Whats the point in buying an Evo then?

Someone already confirmed this for you. Both have there benefits, the GT is slightly lighter than the Glanza but the Glanza has a CT9b which has an extra fin on the turbo and alloys for quicker spool up. All in all both are an even match.

Was gona say focus RS... That's an impressive car for FWD but that is the only one.. and the weight of that car helps the traction along with the clever electronics. Most fwd have quite a low limit. Real performance is generally RWD or 4... But you still need the right car. This statment normally related to higher power cars.. Below 200bhp it is anyone's game. That's just generalising as there are exceptions.

I wouldn't say after 200bhp is pointless as that is determined to the cars chassis and set up.

there was a vid on youtube with the glanza against the gt turbo and they were very evenly matched.the glanza just pipped it at the end but that could of well been because of the driver.it was keiichi tsuchiya.

That was only because he was paid to let the Glanza past :haha:

soon as i read that, i thought Focus RS.

seems you have already been educated on the rest paul.

i agreee with most things said here, having had a high powered starlet, i have caused EVO's, scooby's,supra's and skyline's problems, and i see it like Iain, they expect to just pull away and disapear, and when they dont, i have only ever had one reply when talking afterwards, soon as the window comes down, all you hear is " holy fuck" and for me, that reply is enough to consider the starlet to have served its purpose.

Why is the 0 to 60 so important to you brits??? it means fuck all with all the different variables involved... its like stating what bhp you have... its all nothing but pub talk.. its pretty much as pointless as having a 300bhp setup which does fuck all down the strip, due to incorrect suspension and tyre setup...

Whats important is how ur car performs, either round a track or down a qtm.. and learning to read those times to assess where/how your run can be improved, under consistent, accurate timing meters...

kon

paul_jj has clearly never owned a high powered starlet lol

Having owned a high powered one i can clearly say even over 250horse in fwd car is more than useful. In dry mine would only break traction in second third onwards you had to hold on (td05 at 1.5bar)

and hey guess what thats with NO diff and still puts power down.

but like most say who cares about 0-60 a mean even if a car is say 6.2 seconds and another is 6.7seconds on the road how much further will one be ahead half a car :S.

When ever ive raced it hasnt been to 60 and then stopped its been from 60 mph like most races i.e round a track your taking corners at 60 and pumping it down the straight.

0-60 is just like bhp just damm right pub talk and trying to see who has biggest penis

where i stay the handling side is more important, but knowing the 0-60 times gives you a good indication and acceleration round these parts is vital.top speed isn't much use or anything over a ton.
