If I was you I wouldn't even be thinking of buying a legnum they seem to be very unreliable according to mechanics in Nz the gdi models had problems with lower grade fuel and the engine eventually dies about 10-15,000 km's later.
I used to have a mitsubishi mirage had nothing but problems with that pos car I know people that have owned vr4 legnums and galants that have had so many problems one guy had to get an engine rebuild at 90,000 km's and those tiptronic models have problems with invecs computers and cost $3500 nzd to fix :shoot:
I also reckon they are an insult to the vr4 badge true vr4's were the early e39 shape vr4's that have the 4g63t engine that were eventually replaced by slow heavy overweight cars that didn't perform very well and cost even more to run than the original true vr4
Imo the real true vr4's were the 1987-1992 ones good cars strong gearboxes on the evo 0 models
A legnum or galant vr4 weighs more than a caldina even a stagea is too heavy.
Even though this post has been edited it's still a load of rubbish and you didn't read a word I said about the Legnum VR4's.
We're not talking about GDI models.
We've already established the triptronic can have issues with the torque converter seal and other issues. Hence look for the manual version.
A Legnum VR4 is just over 1500KG. That's not very heavy for an estate car with a 2.5L twin turbo engine and modern Evo technology
So if you get a good manual example, you have 4WD, active stability control, active yaw control, traction control and ABS.
For this you can expect to pay £3200 which is not alot of money.
They do cost alot to maintain, petrol, oil changes etc.
Saying a car needs a rebuild is rubbish, there are plenty around in the UK with well over 100,000 miles. Any car will need a rebuild if it's been abused or not maintained well.
