what did she register at the wheels today dave?

what would you expect to see at the hubs at the same boost fuel ignition etc?

well you not far from it i'd say, 400whp=440bhp

400whp is about 450hp, but most dynos would give u 400whp and near 500hp rofl and therefore fly figures are a joke unless it done on an engine dyno!

Good luck with the 400whp dave! She should be good on the strip with that sort of power and slicks etc.

I think calling chassis dyno fwhp figures a joke is a little harsh, but totally agree about an engine dyno being the only real way - it's just not always convenient :D

Incidentally, with three forum members watching we did back to back runs in 4th and 5th gears today. It proved that running in an overdriven gear over inflates the transmission loss %age and reduces the whp figure yet the fwhp stayed pretty much the same. I'd have to look back at the fwhp figures, but it went from 181whp in 5th to 207whp in 4th :)

Next time Maha calibrate the dyno, I'll ask the technician to see if he knows how the various figures are calculated.

exactly drivetrain lose is substancially higher in a higher gear, therefore the transfered whp should be and is lower. that stands to reason.

the difference between the whp and the calculated fwhp is the slightly doubtful element. the fact that this slightly dubious figure(fwhp) stays the same and isnt dependant on gearing only confirms that the dyno is consistant when tested against itself.

an engine dyno is ideal for fly figures. your average dyno will give fairly reliable whp figures.

im pretty sure on some level we are agreeing lol :)

yes sorry not your/daves figures personally, just generally fwhp show greater and more hilarious differences, dyno to dyno, than the related whp figures.

Oh god mate, totally agree ! I'm the first to say take dyno figures with a sensible dose of salt. We've seen some hilarious printouts in our time :D

Plus the best dyno in the world is useless in the hands of someone that doesn't know what they are doing. A brand spanky new Dyno isn't everything ;) That said, we get our new Rototest later in the year :D Cant wait, my poor missus will never see me again :haha:

That's one thing I have noticed over the years, these boxes in the GT do really hold up well dispite what some users throw at it.

the boxes and driveshafts are good for big power as long as you dont grip good through the first 3 gear's and start smashing it through the gears

The gearboxes in GT's (C52) are also used in higher powered cars too, such as the MR2 (AW11). Glanza gearboxes were also used in Celica's too. It's not so surprising they're so tough. It's the duschbags that don't treat gearboxes with respect that break them.

To add another perspective, i see most of the UK is mainly concerned with finding out the power an engine can produce at the flywheel. Downunder, most power figures are quoted in HP or KW that's produced at the wheels.

I just guess we're a little behind! How inaccurate are power figures at the wheels from dyno to dyno?

Oh, yeah. Forget to mention, insane power figures mate! Hope you've got someone very skilled to drive the car, thats alot of hard work that can be ruined very easily, very quickly.
