right ok things for the rex form knowing them a bit,and a couple of good friends owning then.i guess your going for a 3rd generation twin turbo as an assumption unless has single turbo kit.
they use petrol alot, and its two fills of petrol one fill of oil
your lucky to get between 18-20 mpg nice driving and it goes under ten mpg when flooring it.
they have quite a bit of punch torque wise
but when things go wrong they GO WRONG
you need deep pockets to keep them alive and look after them.
on theplus they look amazing, rear wheel drive fun.

hey cooch, i know your predicament, i was looking at getting a rex about 6months ago, i found a lovely example that had recently had a rebuild and was looked after by a well known tuning firm.

i then scoured the internet to find as much info i could about them, as i wasnt goin to make the same mistake i did with the starlet.

anyway i found a website that told you all about the problems with them, and it really put me off, so i stuck with the starlet.

theres so many issues with these engines and there was loads of factory recalls.

i know one of the majour issues was they tend to overheat, quite badly, there was also problems with electrics, and a host of other things that i cant remember, i tried to find the link i read but i cant find it yet.

you can find negatives on any car tho mate that makes a car sound bad, best way to look at it is the positives and not the negatives

larger cars just dont interest me tbh. for the type of driving i do the starlet is probably the best i can get. handling could be better and i would like a rwd car at some point but otherwise i love it.

main thing i love is how easy it is to work on.

Cheers Ashley and thanks for the link Ricky. Im not worried about problems as evry car has em plus being a mechanic would keep the cost down big time! Mmmmmmmmmm

i agree with that, i would love to get a bigger car, i really really want a skyline GTR but the servicing costs and the fact that there not particuarly easy to work on, i just cant afford it.

i suppose some cars are just there to make us dream.

i would have as much fun with my starlet as i would with a 10 grand gtr, but whats the point in spending all that money for something that wont give you any more enjoyment???

much more satisfying beating someone in a 1.3 turbo as apposed to a 2.6 straight six twin turbo 4wd monster!

true but it depends on how often the problems occur, on the other hand though if you buy a jap import one that has had a rebuild and been maintained by a top jap tuning firm, then most the problems would have been ironed out.

dont rush into buying one find one thats perfect and bide your time.

i know me personally if i could then i would have a rex over a starlet any day of the week.

Fair do's Dunc but im just worried about reaching the limit as far as the amount of Torque i can pull out of a 1.3 is concerned. Dont wanna spend all this money and not be happy with what ive got.

Funny you say that cooch as my bro drove one about a year ago and came back saying he was far from impressed with the speed, thought it would be much quicker.....

they do have around 210BHP per tonne so no slouch but honestly, certainly not a car i would buy, just my taste really......

Also i just love the look on peoples faces getting blown by a little starlet..... ok mine has a 2.0litre turbo but they dont know that :) really amusing

Ive been out in an Evo 5 or 6 and that was phonomenal and the Rex aint that far off. You know when you have been in a fast car and you get in your car and it feels slow? Well i got back in the starlet and she felt quicker! Ha ha how backwards. Just love the shape and sound of the Rex's

Thats cool if you can do it Dunc but if i go strapping a manifold and hybrid turbo to her i just fear that with her being over 100,000 miles old she will throw a paddy! And shes a daily driver so to build my other lump up and slap it would make things far easier! Lol

yeah i know what you mean, i hate that feeling....

although im yet to feel something quicker since ive had my motor back.....

in fact its the fastest car ive been in on par with a 540HP supercharged mustang......

but yeah personally cooch i would make your car even more beasty ;) everyone knows rexs are quick, the surprise its what its about...

One thing though the starbo hast got.... "the desirability factor" the rex has.....
