Trailer Rent

To clarify:

The MAM of the car is it's max weight (So passengers, fuel and luggage etc)
The unladen weight of the car is it's normal weight
The MAM of the trailer is the max weight the trailer can handle

So a Subaru Impreza 03 WRX is 1385KG unladen.
You could use a Mino Max trailer with 1300KG MAM (Clubman would be illegal because it's more than the unladen weight of the Impreza)
Assuming the Impreza 03's MAM weight is less than 2200KG then you would be able to tow legally.

So this would be less than 3500KG MAM combined (Just about).

About the only legal combination I can think of (Assuming on the car's MAM)

Read my post above.

MAM of the car is different to the unladen weight. A MAM of a bigger car would be huge and exceed the total MAM.

So it really isn't that easy!

Got ya, I was thinking in unladen weight.

Yes but if you rent even a SMALL car trailer which have a MAM usually of around 1500KG or 1600KG, then you are bound to exceed the combined MAM.

1700KG car is the unladen weight, the MAM weight of the car would probably be another 400KG or more (Imagine 4 passengers extra + fuel + luggage).

Add this to the MAM of the trailer and you're already at 3700KG combined MAM. (400KG extra was a conservative figure too).

Get your father to drive, simple. I've heard police are quite hot on the trailer thing these days (They probably don't even understand the law themselves though).

It's a difficult one.

Btw I'm not trying to burst your bubble, just making you aware. As I was looking to do the same thing, really.

SEAT Alhambra = 1806KG :D

Luggage Capacity 256 L
Fuel Capacity 70 L

And 4/5 passengers.

I paid about £70 the last time but that was with all the straps and insurance.
They use a really nice Brian James, twin axle tilt trailer.

Just rang them up for a quote, they state £45+ Vat. BUT the worst thing is they dont do straps!!!:shoot::slap: Said we use to do it 2 years ago!!

I'm fairly sure it doesn't matter what the load is, but what the load could be.

Will this work!
Ive got full AA cover, will they tow the car for me?

Probably, I'm with the rac and they'll tow you wherever you want to go if the car has broken down and can't be fixed at the roadside. I was on the back of a low loader for over 100 miles when I broke down last time.

One thing with the rac though is you can't be at your home address so you might have to push the car round the corner a bit!

They'll try to fix the car though.

If their as useless as the rac they won't, the guy that came to my "aid" asked me what the problem was, I said its running on 3 cylinders. He got me to start the car and said yup its running on 3 cylinders and asked me where I wanted to go.:homer:
