completely agree,

have to admit though, it is funny watching the lads round our way riding around with what looks like broken arms/wrists, trying to get the last ounce of speed out of them:haha:

not true tho, its only for the older generation a new rule came in in 2001 that you need to have a valid cbt to ride a bike up to 125cc, has to be done every 2 years

Yeh it's a joke whoever thought that it would be a good idea to restrict them 30mph, it's leathal car drivers take risks when they are desperate to over take you. I say let 16year olds have 80cc and restrict them to 60mph instead.

sorry but whoever keeps a moped at 30mph? get it derestricted atleast, 50mph is alot safer and easier imo.

nothing more dangerous than having cars overtaking you when you cant keep up with traffic

i agree. but i got it new and used it for a month before i de-restricted it. 50mph is alot safer, but at 16 doing that is against the law unfortunately!

tbh mopeds are the way of the future imo, i used 2 be able to fill my bike up for 5 quid and it would last 4 days really couldnt go wrong, and i had it tuned up to 70cc and it had 21hp lmao it was rapid!

same here. was £5 to fill and lasted me a week going to work and back easily. mine wasnt tuned but was still very fast (for a 50) for some reason.

I have done my CBT and had a 100cc scoot and now have a de-restricted yamaha tzr125 and its rapid for the size. Doing my full test in the new year.
I must admit a twist and go scooter is so much more fun than a bike.

driving test before 2001 you can ride a 50cc moped without a cbt.
After 2001 you must have a cbt that lets you ride up to a 125cc if you are over 17.

aslong as your sensible on a bike thats half the battle neway, most the people that get killed are people that are taking big risks like overtaking cars when they shouldnt or taking corners to fast etc,

ok yes you can get unlucky but then hey, when its your time its your time, you could die in the bath if needs be?

i personally am gonna get another one i think because its just so much cheaper and they are fun

If you passed before 2001 then you dont need to do a CBT. Just get a moped and off you go.

i work for honda in motorcycle sales so i have a whole dealership of stock lol.

what budget? pm it me if you dont want to put it up and il see what we have

and no point getting a 50, it wont do more than thirty. just do a cbt for £100 and jump on a 125 :)

cheers

most 50s do more than 30. most will top 50 and the odd sportier ones will do more.

plus the cbt only lasts 2 years so need to keep re taking the damn thing!

i had a peugeot tourer thing that had a 50cc engine in it before, that went about 60,

tbh i only really need a 50cc, unless a 125 is cheaper, as i'll get it derestricted and the fasted i can 'legally' go in terms of speed limits on the roads is 50mph any way, lol.

cost wise, well its just outa spare change tbh so as cheap as possible, 2nd hand trade ins and the like, cheap as ya can. lol

50's are expensive to insure because they're all driven by 16 year olds they're also expensive because they are in high demand. Get a larger scooter it will be a beter ride and cheaper overall.
If you want a proper bike the 125's can be expensive to insure and stuff like rs125 are very expensive in servicing costs, i got rid of mine because it was due a rebuild. I recently found i can insure 400cc plus bikes cheaper than 125s.

Also note 50's are not capable of 60mph + on a level road you realisticly looking at 45-50mph unrestricted, sometime hit little more going down hill the speedo's are useless as soon as you go over 30mph.

with just a cbt i could insure a 50 for £90 with no noclaims. my 125 was about £250 but that was a while back now

my 50 was £250 but that was an import and uber rare my rs125 was £900 i guess he will have a couple of year on what i had back than but i still recon it's cheaper or neglajable* the cost of running a 125scooter over a 50. Definatly worth atleast checking out as we;ve all agreed 50's are dangerous.

50's are dangerous standard. but everybody derestricts them ffs, its a matter of taking off the gearcase and removing the washer between the variator and the gearbox casing, and generally changing exhausts as they normally have a restriction too.

and plus performance parts are very cheap, can get a 70cc bore up kit for 120 quid lol peazy weazy and youve got yourself a 60mph nip around with 30 quid tax and cheap insurance? why would you bother with a big expensive 125
