Why does my car drink a lot?

little tip for long journeys! use super unleaded 97 ron, maybe half a tank tops before.. then go back to v power to top it up. You'll get an extra 40 miles or so out your tank. saves a bit on petty money!

97 is a super unleaded as well as Shell V-Power - it's what BP sells for the same price as V-Power. However I don't like V power, not a bad petrol but seriously overpriced. My car runs better on Tesco 99 RON.

If you really want useful tips on the motorway driving and want to be a maniac on saving the petrol, then stick behind the lorry as close as possible - you will do around 58 Mph and as a lorry is bigger then your car you will have reduced wind resistance, giving you a little bit better MPG.

i have a 5e with a td04L and i think it is reli heavy on juice i have an emb and running 1.2 bar the other day i got 120 miles to 3 quaters of a tank and that was only giving it a blast every now and again my last engine same turbo wit ross pistons and fhe rods and emb the only difference with this engine is a walbro fuel pump on the new engine and i had a standard pump on the old one and it was a way better fuel i'd get about 230 miles out of a full tank and that was driving it hard enuf

Small update with regard to my car and this issue.

I decided to purchase a standalone pre-programmed ECU for my GT as im not planning on going any bigger than the CT9 or Hybrid CT9.

Got a KS ROM JDM ECU from a member on UKSC last week who was very helpful and couriered out to me straight away.

I had a few suspension issues to fix on Saturday so i decided to fit the ECU and change the oil/filter at the same time.

Started the car for the 1st time after the change and to let it idle for a few minutes before i took her out for a gentle drive to see how she acts. Going up my road it did studder a couple of times in low revs so i was just keeping my eye out for any unusual things just incase my car didnt like it. Done about 20 mins driving and all seemed fine. No judders again. Car felt super smooth. No petrol smell, very responsive and no delay when adding my right foot. I started to add some boost gradually after upping the boost on my EBC to .9 bar when i fitted the ECU in the morning and OMG does it kick in now. Very aggresive and strong pull. Cant even believe i was driving the car like it was before lol.. Turbo is alot louder, and car pulls very hard. So pleased and i seem to be usuing hardly any petrol lol. Happy days.

mine learnt straight away. noticeable boost, and when i upped from 1bar to 1.1 bar it made 30hp /torque difference

Ecu's are mega easy to change mate!
With my toms ecu I just let it idle for twenty minutes then took it for a gentle drive.
If you want to try an ecu I have a standard one which had some sort of chip in it according to the previous owner but foe the life of me I can't remeber the spec of it. Your welcome to borrow it n tell me if it makes any difference

nice one bud, guess i was right about the stock ecu after all...;)... ks-rom, jam and the toms ecu's are the only plug and play ecu that you have to let it settle in before you go boosting..why i dont know.. odd that the blitz, sard etc ecus dont need a run in period.. just goes to show that they are indeed all different

^^ really? What if you dont let it settle before you go boosting? I probably did 30 miles before i started planting my foot

just wont run right thats all... seen it more with the jam ecus, ive seen lads getting rid of ecus thinking they were broken, lol... id love to know why they need a run in period tho.. they have to be self learning cause after a certain amount of miles they just start doing what they are supposed to do... the blitz doesnt do this at all.. plug it in and go boosting straight away

not at all bud no.. if its running good then the ecu has bedded in... they are different on all cars cause of different setups, ive seen some running bad for 50miles and others only for 10 or so.. dont worry about it... its just the way they are...
