for the record Microsoft offer a standard 1 year warranty on their xboxes, and a standard 3 year warranty for anyone that receives the Red Ring O' Death, so don't sweat too much.

Also the new models/batches of 360's have a much better dvd drive which is quieter and doesnt sctrach the discs (lying the xbox flat helps, and do not leave discs in the machine if you are moving it).

And the newer xboxes user a different motherboard and have extra fans and a new low heat processor, which basically produces less heat which was a cause of the RROD.

If my xbox broke down today, I would simply either get it replaced free, or if out of warranty I would buy another arcade version today as they are so cheap (plus I would then have a HDMI port).

If you are worried about the DVDs, you can burn them to the hard disc drive from 19 November onwards, then you only need to insert the disc once to verify its legit, then it runs off the HDD.

Its good to see microsoft finally got round to installing an hdmi port, I would feel pretty cheated knowing that the max i could go was 720p.

Saying that though, are there any games that use 1080p?

I think mgs4 does, maybe but Im not sure

my mate brought his ps3 round the other nite (as i'm an xboxer) and i have to admit the ps3 is better because -

the graphics are alot better

free membership and downloads

its alot quieter

you can go on the internet, like ebay etc

the controllers are wireless as standard and 4 people can play, you only have to buy the controllers (2v2 on pro evo lol)

there bringing more games out now, and stuff like gran tramismo is only ps3

blueray

But there are abit expensive compared to the xbox so i'm gonna wait until they come down in price. just my 2p :)

It's £230 in Costco with two games at the moment.

Fancy lending me your card?:p

I want a ps3, the only reason I want one over a 360 is GT5, its quite annoying really seeing how cheap a 360 is and all my mates also have one, but I must have GT5!:(

Trams?! Holy shit!:haha::p

I agree on the price though, their gonna have to drop the price soon as I'm getting sorely tempted by a 360. There was somewhere selling them for £100 new.

they are cheap. thats all thats drawing me too it, plus a few of the games do look fucking good. the ps3 is ok, but expensive. i do know what you mean about gran turismo, but forza looks pretty impressive and i quite liked its predecessor project gotham racing on the dreamcast.

Seems complicated.. Why not go for a PS3 where you dont get the hassle of paying for the net, scratching disks etc...

If I were you, I'd save my money. I bought an Xbox 360 a little over a year ago and it's been a disaster. Like yourself, I'm not a big gamer but I enjoy the GTA's and I love the NBA games etc.

The first problem I had with it was a known issue called 'the ring of death'. This is when 3 (or all) of the lights around the power switch light up red and tell you that its time to get the shovel and bury it in the back garden because its dead and it ain't coming back.. Ok, I didn't bury it, I exchanged it :)

The second issue I had/have is a more serious one and one that Microsoft still won't acknowledge, despite the fact that it’s happened to a lot of people. It’s where the console actually scratches a perfect circle around the outer edge of the disc, thus wrecking it. You get the 'disc is dirty' message. Real kick in the stones.

My Xbox is lying in the corner in my room. I'll sell you that one if you want it :)

If you're not really a gamer, I'd keep my money but if you do like the odd game, my advice would be to get yourself a PS3.. I actually hate Sony too but that's another day’s discussion..

Just my tupence worth but I'm sure there are loads who have had no problems with their Xboxes..

nice advice man.

I wouldnt touch an xbox.. Microsoft have given the two fingers to buyers of this system saying problems didnt exist etc and have made so many revisions etc it just seems the system was flawed from the start.

I personally hate sony due to their enforcement of copyright on hardware etc meaning a sony DVD player is most likely not going to play you home made DVDs or perfectly legal video clips... along with their proprietary accessories like using over priced memory stick duo for the PSP instead of using an industry standard like SD or similar. having said that they do build quality gaming platforms and there is no denying that. My PSP has been all over the world with me and has got knocked and banged and never missed a beat.

I would pay the extra for a PS3 and walk away with something you are not wondering about if its gonna break down or destroy discs etc - I dont care if Microsoft offer a good warranty.. if its anything like the farce that was their replacement warranty for power supplies that were dodgy on the original xbox they can shove it up their arse.
