18 Year Old First Time Driver

I see what you are saying Kelly, but I'm just one for learning to drive in a slower car, progressing to a faster one as experience builds. Granted, it's the drivers mentality that counts, but I can't help but think that a yound and inexperienced driver in a Starlet is a recipe for disaster, especially one with stock boaty suspension!

Comments aside, he's passed his test and bought a GT, I can only hope we don't see another "I've stacked it" topic in chillout. :(

To the OP: There is a massive list of insurers in this section, take a read and start phoning around. Don't expect it to be cheap though. Also...

Congrats on passing :)
It's ur choice in what car you like as a first car i guess, the starlets are getting more and more known now.
Have you read through the insurance threads on here? might be able to give you some idea.

Enjoy ur stay :)

muppet. if you can see above iv sorted it all out

Excuse me? No real need for that is there, or would you like another ":p" smilie to make my light hearted quip a little more obvious?

I assume by your post you mean you sorted your insurance out? You say "I sorted it last week" but I see no post prior to that stating you had. ;)

nice1 kelly you sound like a realy sound girl. Wots there problem do you no wot a mean. Is is because they had clio and corses???????????

I had the same shit off my parents... and I ended up with a seicento as a first car and the GT for my 2nd car, now I've got a clio and a GT.

Take it as advice I've got so many m8s who had 1.6/1.8/2.0L as first cars and their not exceptionally fast, and theres probably only about 1 of the cars left out of around 5 lol

Basically the forum members are saying that giving a young, inexperienced driver a turbo charged vehicle to drive around in is like giving said young driver a loaded gun.

Statistics prove that young drivers are very likely to crash with a year of passing their tests, the odds in your case are increased as you have a performance car.

Take it on the chin though, this happens on all car club forums when a young'un passes their test and gets a performance car, trust me, I see it all the time. Prove them all wrong, drive sensibley and you'll be fine! You could even dig this thread up in a years time and rub their noses in it...

I'll beleive it when i see it though :)

Itl be stupidly expensive, i got a quote from quin last week, there the only one whos seem to insure, i put in a quote for 18, held a licence for less than a year, 0 ncb and it came out at 3.5k, wait unitl you have 1yrs ncb and it drops to 1700 tpft or 2ish thousand fully comp, thats why ive waited a year!

And the others are right, the power will get the better of you...
