Thinking of going for a few days in the summer travel around the islands, anyone done this before? also is athens the only airport to fly into. More flying :(

i want too go myself matey, my nephew works out there 8 months a year doing all bar work an club repping etc. not really my thing but he must go back every year for a reason.

im a bit worrid about the heat i burn really easy for some reason lol turkey this year for me tho.

ive heard that in athens you can use all the leisure stuff from the olympics, such as the man made kayaking river thing.

i'd have to check the names (and spelling) with the wife but im sure it was Nidri, Lefkarda, Zanty and kefalonia that we've been to over the last few years, been out there about 4 years in a row and loved it. We nomaly hire a vitara or santana if we want to go everywhere, and a car with A/C if its dam hot, 45c in the mid-day at Zanty one year. Check out Cameo island if you go to Zanty.

im going to kos next year,i would go in september if i were you peak season is way to hot for my liking and it is also cheaper in september but still hot.

Hello Derek,

depends on which islands you want to go to.
For example, Rhodes, Kos, Crete, Zante (Zakynthos), Corfu (Kerkyra)
and maybe some more that I'm missing out, have airports with usually cheap flights from UK to Greece. I think they are charter flights, by Thomas Cook etc.

Now, islands like Santorini, Mykonos (might have direct flight), Sifnos, Tinos, Milos, Serifos,Ios, Paros, Naksos are quite close with each other (that complex is called Cyclades ).

Also I or other members from Greece, we can suggest you where to go, if you tell us what you want to do. Clubbing ? relaxing? food traveling ? sightseeing? Lying on the beach ?

I'll gladly take you on a tour in Athens (sightseeing etc) if I'm not in vacations when you'll come and of course afternoons or weekends :)

My advice, try to book hotels from UK, usually it's cheaper.
I usually use laterooms.com for UK and greece if needed.

I totally agree with jam35 :)
From Kos, Rhodes, Chios, Lemnos you can go to Turkey for a day trip.

I went to Rhodes in 2008, it was amazing! Loved the place, lovely people and the weather was awesome (in october!)

Been to zante, rhodes and going to kos this year, great weather, great water and lovely places.

Ive been to both rhodes and Kos. Both were nice, but I found where we was in rhodes it was over commercialised where as kos town was lovely, with steep cobbled streets and the harbour was stunning. Hoping to go back out there this year if I get the chance.
