glanzanut: i would be looking at a set of 195 or 205/50/15 toyo R888 semi slicks or intermediates as some call them, for that kind of power level. wider will be better but i wouldnt go over 205
these tyres are good on the strip, i sometimes run a set of older model r881 with good results mine are a 14inch tyre with 60profile which yield very similar 60ft times as my hoosiers do. the only major difference between the two i have found is the consistency of getting the same 60ft time is slightly lower on the r881s, but the car drives much nicer on them. i think on a non prepped track the biggest time difference between the hoosiers and my older r881's is .1sec and i have done many many runs on both sets.
i have also run my car on a friends r888's in the passed and had good results, on a non prepped track i was doing consistent 2.0 60ft times, they are slightly better than the r881's that i own and in between those and the hoosiers.
the advantage of running a semi slick tyre is that they will last allot longer than a slick tyre (this depends on how abusive you are with your driving ie size of burnouts making sure that your wheel inlinements are always up to scratch as if not they will chew out really fast, and making sure that when (if) you choose to use them on the road they are at the correct air pressures.
the other advantage of a semi slick tyre is its versatility and the fact that you can use it at the drags at on the circuit. this is why i say dont go for a tyre thats over 205 wide so that you can use the tyres for duel disciplines. anything over 205 and youll have guard rub issues at the circuit and on the road.
hope this helps you some.
scot-ish: ok so for you i would be looking at a set of drag specific tyres. M@H tyres from the states are the hot favourites with alot of the honda and pro FWD street guys. Hoosier and Micky Tompsons are also quite good but currently the M@H tyres seem to be the pick of the bunch although non of them are what you would describe as bad they all do their jobs remarkably well.
depending on your finnal drive ratio you may need to step it down a rim size to maximize the tyre side wall a bit. 15s are quite large for a fwd drag rim. you can run them just dont get to carried away with the size wall sizing something like a 215 or 225 50 15 will give you an overall rolling diameter of 24 ish inches which is getting up there and can make your gear ratios a bit to long. but if this be the case the way around it would be to swap from a 3.7 finnal drive to a 4.1 and then youll be away laughing, and even have the possibility of doing 2nd gear launches!!
hope this was of some help to you also.
cheers
Ryan
