make a complaint, i think you can geta complaint form, i think its called a 666, and do it that way, i think you can get someone to collect it who has cover on any car, i had to do it once many moons ago and for exactly the same reason as you, i had temporary insurance for a week.

the officer is in the wrong! you should file a complaint against him sayin that he is stereotyping you as a boy racer and that you have produced your certificate so therefore your car has been wrongfully impounded!

if you have no sucess take legal action, when you win the police will have to pay all the solicitor fees!

i hate when the police abuse their authority!

You can have anyone pick it up for you provided they have insurance and a valid driver licence (eg if they have 3rd party cover on other cars on their own policy but check the wording because some new policys don't cover to collect seized vehicles) as for having insurance on the day if you take the proof in they should waive the fee. You'll have to keep it off the road (in your drive would do) because as soon as the person who picks it up for you gets out of it, it's not insured to be on a public road and they can just take it again (you know they will !!). Just explain the situation to the person in the station and if you're nice about it you should get it back without any charge.

Emma,
Barry's wife - who also deals with about 5 of these a day since I work in a police station !!

She also said you had the car for a month and why you insuring it for just 1 day! Whats that got do with it! I was insured yesterday and he is my doc!

Now she goes she guna pass it on to the officer who dealt with you at the time and he will check!

Im so annoyed feel like slaping the day lights out of her!

Regarding the car, traders is not covered plus my cuz polcy states he not allowed to remove impounded car!

I would seek legal advice cos it sounds like they're trying to shaft you mate. If you have a valid insurance document and they think its fraudulent they should have called the insurance company to validate before seizing the vehicle.

They said they wont release the car witha 1day insurance policy? Thats what theh officer said!:shoot:

He said the tyre was low on air (I had all tyre pressure checked few days ago).

You can run your tyre pressures at what ever pressure you want, no one can state otherwise.

Just leave it there, its only a civic!!! (only joking)

As said before, the driving other cars third party on your policy is only valid if the actual car being driven has a valid insurance policy on it. This stops you insuring your fiesta fully comp then driving a ferrari 3rd party.
If you were outside the time frame for your insurance then you are fucked. If you were not, then you will be fine. It wasnt after midnight was it? Or maybe your polivy went from, say, 7pm to 7pm. If I were you I would hire a trailor to get it back as it will be cheaper than insurance. Also why on earth do people get 1 day insurance on a car they own. Even if I had a car off the road I would still insure it 3rd party fire and theft.

Also I am sure the cops could do you if your tyre pressure was stupidly low as it would be dangerous to drive around with 2 psi in your tyres and the car would be deemed unroadworthy

Tyre Pressures
Regulation 27 section b states "the tyre is not so inflated as to make it fit for the use to which the motor vehicle or trailer is put", however this statement is fairly ambiguous. As there is no indication of at what point an under or over inflated tyre becomes unfit for the use it is being put to.
As said it is against the law to run underinflated tyres but difficult to be done. If they were REALLY low, you could be done for it.

My girlfriend is sat on the sofa next to me, she works in the police force.

If you were covered for the hours when you were driving then there is no issue, you should not have to pay any fees either.

The officer shouldn't of impounded the car either, although you SHOULD of had the print out of the confirmation with you. The insurance company should have been rang by the officer for confirmation.

If they are trying to charge you then thats basically fraud, dispute it and go through a small claims court or something.

Ah well she was obviously not as helpfull as I am lol !! Stick with it though I've had this happen a few times and have just phoned the siezure co-ordinator and had them waive the fee so I can't see what her problem is.

They probably won't take any trade policy since most of them state for motor trade purposes and this isn't really. If you want someone else to pick up the car for you using their insurance you'll need them to go with you and produce their insurance and driving licence. It doesn't matter if the cars not insured as long as the driver is but bear in mind as soon as the insured driver gets out it better be on private land so no stopping at the shops !!! As far as I'm concerned you should be able to get it out with another 1 day policy.

I'm in Scotland thought so there's a possiblity we do it differently.

What exactly is on your seizure notice ?!?
