Clays of Thunder

Now don't laugh.. but I'm looking to treat the fleet to some attention once I get some time to myself and have purchased a clay bar and some lube (stop sniggering down the back!)

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on using a bar for the first time on 'never-been-clayed-ever' paintwork?

As you can guess I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to keeping cars clean..:)

Cheers in advance,

Jay

give the car a good wash and then go straight in there while its still wet. i havnt honestly been that impressed with clay bars before. never really takes much off i found?!!??!

just have to make sure it doesnt pick up any grit otherwise you scratch the paintwork :(

Same here, found clay bars to be a bit of a waste of time. Gunk engine degreaser on the other hand, well that's a completely different story! Works wonders if you spray it onto a clean sponge and use that to apply it onto a wet panel, do one panel at a time and then wash it off before moving onto the next, don't let it sit on the paintwork for more than a few seconds and keep it off the windows. Wouldn't recommend using it on the paint too often though, but it works well if the car has been caked in shit for longer than you'd care to remember.

i found the meguires clay kit rather good can get it for 12/15 quid well i did anyway you will prob notice it more on your car jay if it hasnt been done before, a bucket of warm soapy water could also come in handy for cleaning the clay after every half a panel. if you want a hand some day jay i have a few days off i could come up show you the new car :D

Hahahahaha, there is so much ammunition in that that statement I am going to have a wee lie down before I start.
