deposit in year old rad????

fitted a new rad a year ago when i fitted my fmic.

filled it up with toyota for life coolant as normal and its been fine since.

went to change my waterpump today and when i looked in the top of the rad after draining it down i noticed some deposits forming in there already.
surely this shouldnt be happening so quickly? i had a stock sized alloy rad previously and had no problems with any crap buildup after a couple of years use.

here is the current rad (not the greatest pic but can just make it out):

and my alloy rad i had:

any ideas?

May be the warter is hard.
 Limescale

i used just the toyota forlife coolant with no water added! exactly the same as i did with the ali rad.

just tried flushing it with a hose all different ways and nothing came out.

i dont think i flushed it through before fitting it? would that make a difference?

Probably just remnants from your heater matrix core and hoses mate. Given the condition of cooling systems I seen in the past you shouldn't have anything to worry about anyway.

i wouldnt worry normally but its suddenly gone from being immaculate to being like it is now :(

even when i first ever got the car and flushed the coolant system it didnt have any crap come out.

just concerned that a rad that was in for a few years was as new but this one has some deposits in it and a kinda milky substance in with the coolant within 6 months that makes me think headgasket :(:(:(

there is no real coolant or oil loss though

maybe lnked to the water pump situation....

sometimes when they leak... its gets rusty around
those areas

just keep an eye on it if u suspect headgasket failure..

waterpump just squeaked now and then when turning the car off. as i was changing the cambelt i thought i may as well change the pump.

there wasnt any crap at the water pump end of things.

the car wont be used again until the summer. i would rather not put it all back together. start using it in the summer then find the headgasket is gone a month later. but on the other hand i would rather not do the headgasket either as its not exactly a 5 min job.

not sure what to do tbh

im a plumber and depending on the metal it comes in contact with water will always leave a deposit, i really wouldnt worry about it mate :freddy:

but i use toyota coolant only mate and my previous rad was spotless inside, i know water leaves deposits, thats one reason why you shouldnt use just water in a car cooling system.

the milky residue is making me sway towards headgasket though :(

as there are no other symptoms im tempted just to leave it and see what happens. will do a compression test tomorrow anyway just to see what i get.

will just be kicking myself if a month into using it again in the summer the damn thing goes badly and ill have to do it when i should be using it.

any other opinions on this. going to go do a compression test in a bit if my dad is feeling ok.

done compression test.

bearing in mind the car hasnt been run at all in over 2 months i got 160 psi across all 4 cylinders.

i think im just going to bosh the car back together and keep and eye on it!

its fine geeza. mine was like that before.

if worried get a sniffer test done!

well its almost back together now ;)

i would do the sniffer test but it has no coolant in it now and will need to run the engine to do the test.

ill just leave it and just keep and eye on it. if the headgasket does go then ill have to change it. is probably ok though. its not as though i run it lean or overheat it. plus not running silly boost or anything.

just me worrying about nothing as normal ;)

If it your HG water would be pissing out of the expansion tank under boost if its only a small leak.

This what happened to mine. So keep an eye out on your expansion tank and when u go for a hard drive av a look and see if it gone up.

it goes up about half an inch if that, i have the smaller abs expansion tank though. its always gone up by the same amount. like i said, its acting and driving as it always has done. has no problems at all
